Many recurring synthesis materials are available in four rarities: Shard, , , and Crystal. Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory only have the Shard, Gem, and Crystal rarities, although Kingdom Hearts Final Mix adds Stone materials, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep only features Crystal materials. In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Dream Pieces are available in three different rarities: , {{nihongo|Fancy|空想|Kūsō|lit. In Kingdom Hearts, synthesis materials as a type of item that Sora can exchange in the Item Workshop for various items and accessories.
| In Kingdom Hearts II, obtained synthesis materials can be deposited at any Moogle Shop, and Sora obtains rewards for collecting a certain number or type of materials. | ||
| In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, material panels can be used in panel synthesis to create item panels, magic panels, ability panels, weapon panels, and ring panels. Recipes are treated as a type of synthesis material, and some panels require an item panel, magic panel, ability panel, or ring panel to be synthesized. | ||
| In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, synthesis materials are used during Command Meld to add an ability to the melded command. | ||
Dream Pieces | In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Dream Pieces are used to create Spirit Dream Eaters.
In Kingdom Hearts χ, synthesis materials are used to upgrade Keyblades. Common materials can be found as sparkling spots on the ground, while rarer materials are available as rewards.
In Kingdom Hearts III, synthesis materials function similarly to Kingdom Hearts II.
In Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, synthesis materials were introduced in Version 4.1.0. Materials are split into three categories. "Ore materials" consist of Shards, Gems, Ores, and other materials, and are represented by a brown rock, a purple gem, and a cluster of gold crystal. "Liquid materials" consist of Stones, Dew, and Nectar, and are represented by a phial filled with blue liquid, and a jar filled with white liquid. "Nature materials" consist of the Strange Leaf and Strange Bulb, and are represented by a bunch of leaves and a mushroom.
In Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, Shard and Gem materials can be used to synthesize items, while Crystal materials are used to add bonus effects to the synthesis process. MS Materials are a unique type of material, as each MS Material can only be obtained once, and is used to synthesize the corresponding music track.

Synthesis materials (合成用素材 Gōsei-yō Sozai ) are a type of item introduced in Kingdom Hearts. Synthesis materials can be used to synthesize other items.
In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, synthesis materials are called material panels (合成素材パネル Gōsei Sozai Paneru , lit. "Synthesis material panel"). Unlike other panels, they cannot be placed in the Panel System.
In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, synthesis materials are called Dream Pieces (ドリームピース Dorīmu Pīsu ), and are used to create Spirit Dream Eaters.
Many recurring synthesis materials are available in four rarities: Shard (かけら Kakera ), Stone (しずく Shizuku , lit. "Drop"), Gem (魔石 Maseki , lit. "Magic Stone"), and Crystal (結晶 Kesshō ). In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Dream Pieces are available in three different rarities: Figment (幻想 Gensō , lit. "Illusion"), Fancy (空想 Kūsō , lit. "Daydream"), and Fantasy (夢想 Musō , lit. "Dream").
Mechanics[edit]
In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Dream Pieces are used to create Spirit Dream Eaters.
