The Dustflier is an Emblem Heartless that is found in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It can be found at the Station Plaza in Twilight Town during Mission 89, after the basic requirements of the mission have been cleared. Defeating the Dustflier is the last requirement to completing the mission.

Design[edit]

A Dustflier is a large, draconic creature with predominantly brown skin, save for its belly, which is tan, and its shoulders, feet, and the tip of its tail, all of which are black. Its body is rather thin, while its three-toed feet are quite large, each sporting orange talons. Its wings seem rather short and bulky when compared to its feet and tail, and its light orange wingtips are vaguely reminiscent of the Nobody symbol. The Dustflier's tail ends in a large, misshapen club with three conical, orange spikes on it, and its head is V-shaped and flat. It has beady yellow eyes on either side of its head, and its Heartless emblem is on its chest.

The Dustflier's English name and its Japanese name, "Debrisflow", both reference dust and debris.

Strategy[edit]

The Dustflier appears at Station Plaza after the other six Heartless bosses are defeated. With its immense Defense and HP, the Dustflier takes a very long time to whittle down. Its attacks deal high damage and inflict status effects, so watch for visual cues telegraphing each attack and dodge carefully. Be wary of the Shadows that continuously spawn: their attacks can stun, making the player vulnerable to the Dustflier's attacks.

Equip abilities for aerial mobility, especially High Jump, Air Slide, and Glide; a weapon with high Strength, Critical Rate, and/or Critical Bonus to boost damage; and a Ring Panel that boosts either fire resistance, such as the Tears of Flame, or Defense and/or HP, such as the Princess's Crown. The Dustflier is resistant to all offensive magic, but Cure magic can help Roxas's longevity. Bringing Panaceas and Elixirs can make the battle easier.

The Dustflier's most common attack consists of a leap, followed by large, slow-moving, non-elemental shockwave that has a 100% chance of inflicting a random negative status effect. Jump and Air Slide or Glide over the shockwave. Alternately, if the Dustflier performs the shockwave on the lower ground, move to the top of the Plaza steps to avoid the shockwave entirely.

After its shockwave attack, the Dustflier follows up with one of three attacks: an aerial flip that halves HP, a flying charge that can air-toss, or a volley of fireballs with an 80% chance of igniting. After each followup attack, the Dustflier performs another shockwave and repeats the process.

The flip and charge are short-range and easily avoided using Air Slide or Glide. Watch out for the fireball attack, telegraphed by the Dustflier spreading its wings and raising its head. Dodge the fireballs by continuous dodging, or by hiding behind the two brick walls at either end of the train station steps. All three attacks can be blocked.

The best opportunities to attack are immediately after the Dustflier's flip and charge attacks. Execute one or two attack combos before the Dustflier leaps up for the next shockwave.

The Dustflier is a test of endurance and patience. Prioritize dodging, and only land attacks when it is safe to do so.

Technique Element Status Power Block?
Somersault Kick (宙返り蹴り
Chūgaeri Keri
?)
Attack Command Earth Halve HP (100%) 3.10
Somersaults in the air while kicking with its feet.
Invincible Charge (無敵突進
Muteki Tosshin
?)
Attack Command Wind Air-toss (100%) 2.50
Rushes straight at the target while flying.
Shock Wave (衝撃波
Shōgekiha
?)
Attack Command Random (100%) 2.60 X
Crashes onto the ground and creates a slow-moving, far-reaching shockwave.
Meteor Breath (メテオブレス
Meteo Buresu
?)
Attack Command Fire Ignite (80%) 3.00
Shoots out eight fireballs around itself that crash around the opponent's location.

The Dustflier jumps, uses Shock Wave upon landing, then follows with either Somersault Kick, Meteor Breath, or Invincible Charge, depending on the distance between it and the opponent, and repeats this pattern.
Guard/Block: △ = Can be blocked; O = Can be blocked and interrupted (melee) or deflected back (projectile); X = Cannot be blocked.
