The Tornado Step is an Emblem Heartless introduced in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. It is one of only three Heartless to debut in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, along with the Creeper Plant and Crescendo.

Design[edit]

The Tornado Step has a very small navy-blue body, emblazoned with the Heartless emblem. Two short legs can be seen at the bottom of the body, and a short, thin neck extends from the top to its round head, harboring two glowing, yellow eyes and a jagged maw. The Heartless wears a tall, conical, blue hat, with a bent tip and two yellow, spiral-like designs on the front. It is unclear whether the Heartless has arms extending from where its ears would be, or if the long, light aqua-colored extremities are actually part of the Heartless's hat. Black hands and yellow bangles can be seen at the end of the "arms".

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the Tornado Step experiences a very dramatic color change; its body and head now have a reddish tint, its hat is a light-orange, the spiral-like designs are now dark-orange, its "arms" are a light-yellow color, its hands are a reddish color and the bangles it wears are green.

A tornado is a violent, rotating column of air. This highlights the Tornado Step's spinning movements and its wind-based attacks.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

The Tornado Step is often encountered alongside Crescendo Heartless, providing them with a source of healing. During the Tornado Ride Reaction Command, Sora latches onto the Tornado Step as it spins with Keyblade extended, allowing him to control it and attack enemies before launching the Heartless away. Approaching an upward incline forces the Reaction Command to abort.

The Tornado Step often counters with its Propeller Charge attack when damaged. As a result, it can be easily dealt with by baiting out this attack and then utilizing its Reaction Command to make quick work of it.
