The Deserter is an Emblem Heartless that is found in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Design

As a small Heartless with little HP, the Deserter has white claws that it only uses when pressed in a tight situation. It is similar to the Stealth Soldier, yet is less offensive and lacks invisibility powers. Deserters bear the Heartless emblem on their chest, dangerous yellow eyes gleaming underneath its silver helmet.

Its name, Deserter, is a military term given to those who run away from the military, an appropriate name for this Heartless as it runs away from the fight unless pressed into battle.

Strategy

While Deserters are not particularly offensive, they are quite the annoyance. Appearing in large groups, they run around the battlefield at high speeds, making attacks hard to land. Once Roxas corners one, brace for a small attack, and hammer it with the Keyblade until its short HP bar is depleted. Furthermore, when Roxas defeats one Deserter, its companions will swarm him and attack all at once. However, blocking their attack gives Roxas the advantage as it knocks them off their feet. Use that opportunity to kill them. It is best to use a weapon that works well in midair as it can trap them in a combo without them escaping.
