Shadow
Template:Heartless The Shadow is a Pureblood Heartless that is found in all Kingdom Hearts games.
Shadows are the weakest and most common of all Heartless, and are found almost everywhere. They are created when the darkness in an ordinary person's heart is unleashed. Other Pureblood Heartless, like Darkside, can produce or summon Shadows. Despite their weak appearance, they are a threat to normal people, who usually have no way of defending themselves. Even Sora had no means of damaging them until he attained the Keyblade. Shadows also appear to have spawned a number of different sizes and colors, most notably in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

A Heartless that pops up in all kinds of places.
The Shadow ambles around and attacks without warning. It is completely untouchable while hiding within the darkness.

A Pureblood Heartess that flows across the ground as a shadow, completely immune to attack.
Watch for the moment it emerges, then strike!
Kingdom Hearts II
It sinks into the ground while moving, so timing is the key to defeating it.
The moment it surfaces, attack away!
Abilities
Shadows live up to their name, emerging from the ground to attack with a simple but fierce claw strike. Alone, they are easy to handle, but in large numbers can overwhelm an opponent; the ones summoned by Ansem in Hollow Bastion appear to be too much for Donald and Goofy in the original Kingdom Hearts. The Shadows also manage to hold down Sora by sheer number in the Hall of Empty Melodies in Kingdom Hearts II.
As the most common Heartless, it is not surprising that Sora turned into one after releasing his and Kairi's hearts in Kingdom Hearts.

Shadows appear in every game released as of 2009, and in almost every world; far more unique are worlds without Shadows, such as Atlantica in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II, or Neverland in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.
