The Pot Scorpion is an Emblem Heartless that is found in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX.

Design

The Pot Scorpion is, true to its name, a scorpion-like Heartless trapped in a red pot. Its four spindly legs are pale blue with blue joints and poke out of holes in the upper half of the jar. Despite the fact that it is based on scorpions, the Pot Scorpion only has four legs. Its tail, which is comprised of several blue, spherical segments and ends in a stinger with a black tip, breaks out of the lower half of the back of the jar and curls over the top. Its beady, glowing yellow eyes are visible in a small hole in the front of the jar's bottom, and two large, pale blue pincers poke out through the same hole. These pincers have blue joints and black tips.

Strategy

The Pot Scorpion only appears as a special encounter at the Palace Gates, where it is hiding among an array of twelve pots. To increase the chances of receiving its unique drop, the Mythril Stone, Sora will need to break as many of the empty pots as possible before awakening the Pot Scorpion. The empty pots can be identified by attempting to push them; empty pots will be movable, and will drop Munny and increasing Tech point awards when shattered. The final pot (excluding the Pot Scorpion itself) will award 100 Tech and has a chance to drop a Mythril Stone. The Pot Scorpion lies within the pot that cannot be moved, which should be struck once the other eleven pots are broken in order to begin the battle. It is important to position Sora so that his Keyblade does not touch any of the other pots, lest he hit the one the Pot Scorpion resides in.

The Pot Scorpion is invulnerable to damage until its attacks are blocked, flipping it onto its back. It can be flipped by blocking either its charge attack, telegraphed by snapping its pincers, or its stinger attack, telegraphed by it glowing pink. Even though it telegraphs its moves, it can immediately attack Sora if he attacks it when it is not spewing poison, making it easier to block. The same goes for when it is charged up, but Sora only has to stay close to it for it to melee attack him. It moves swiftly after telegraphing, so Guard should be used while it is still readying to attack; alternatively, Aeroga can be used as a persistent shield so that timing is not an issue. Once it is flipped on its back, there is time for Sora to land one or two Keyblade combos on it.

The Pot Scorpion also launches globs of poison around the arena, both in small volleys and in one long stream that rains down across the arena. These globs will damage and stun the party if stumbled into, which can cause fatal delays reaching the Pot Scorpion in time to damage it while it is still stunned.
