Armor covers every inch of these large Heartless, allowing them to deflect blows from every direction.
Instead, aim for the head and knock them down, rendering them vulnerable to further attack. Use Thunder magic to keep them down longer.

Strategy

At the start of the battle, jump to avoid the shockwave that the Heartless boss summons when it leaps into the air. It may also cause a wave of energy to ripple across the field in a straight path, something easily avoidable. In this battle, the player must attack and then move away almost instantly, trying to execute a three-hit combo not recommended. Should you do this, you face a great amount of damage thanks to the Clay Armor's side-to-side slap attack. Should your HP hit the "Alarm Zone," do not hesitate to use Event Horizon. It is recommended that Potions, Ethers, and the Cure and Thunder spells be brought into this battle. Simply attack until the beast falls, and seize the opportunity to deal a slightly greater amount of damage on its only vulnerable point, its head. You can attack the head before it falls by jumping, but most attacks will be deflected. It should also be noted that if one executes Event Horizon after the Clay Armor falls, they must move away as fast as possible so their low HP doesn't hit zero after the Heartless counterattacks when free of its dazed, writhing state.
