Xaldin was resent when Xion joined Organization XIII, observing her in silence. In the grey Room he would often remind Roxas to apply himself well, and to become stronger. Xaldin began to aid Roxas on various missions, particularly to Beast's Castle. It was on one of these missions that Xaldin witnessed the Beast's power. Seeing this power firsthand, Xaldin was intrigued and envisoned Beast's usefulness to the Organization. His later quest to obtain the Beast's Heartless and Nobody began at this point, becoming his pet project. Xaldin's plan grew during the continuous visits to the castle, as he learned the strong connections between the Beast, his rose, and the only human in the castle, [[Belle]]. after investigating with Roxas, he deemed that it was a spell that made the Beast what he was, and the rose and Belle were important to the breaking of this spell. He further understood the value of Belle after Roxas defended the castle from the enormous Heartless, the Infernal Engine, who had wounded Beast. Xaldin decided to use these to his advantage and his plans began to develop. Xaldin was also there when Xemnas revealed that Xion was a replica to resemble Sora. he was disgusted at being kept in the dark, but did not complain. he made it clear though that he would make Xion pay for her treachery. Near the end of Roxas' time with the Organization, he received a mission to find Xaldin, who had gone missing in Beast's Castle. Overhearing the residents talking, Roxas deduced he had made contact with the Beast,sowing doubts and discord in his mind. Upon finding Xaldin, he was told no more than he had made some preparations. Informing Roxas he shouldn't bother him, he RTC'd with the young Nobody. Little did Roxas know that Xaldin's actions would be so sinister, and that they would come into contact with his complete self, Sora.
