The Meow Wow is a Dream Eater that appears in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, as well as a Summon in Kingdom Hearts III.
The Meow Wow is the only Dream Eater designed by Tetsuya Nomura.[1]
Story
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Sora obtains the Meow Wow Spirit after defeating the Nightmare versions, making it the first of his Dream Eater companions. Later, when Riku regains consciousness from his first Drop, he notices Shiki being chased by Nightmare Meow Wows, and rescues her.
When Frollo tricks Sora, Phoebus and Quasimodo into showing him the Court of Miracles' location, he summons Nightmare Meow Wows to act as his personal henchmen.
When Riku reaches the Brink of Despair and is looking for a way into the Organization's castle, he spots Sora's Meow Wow trying to get his attention from the castle entrance. When his Komory Bat shows up as well, he realizes that they are there to help him across and uses the Dreamline Reality Shift to create a rope and cross the gap.
Several Meow Wows arrive with a multitude of other Spirits to welcome Sora when he returns to Traverse Town after finishing the Mark of Mastery exam; Sora's own Meow Wow is the first to greet him.
Design
Meow Wows are plump Dream Eaters that resemble a cross between a cat and a dog. It has a point at the top of its head, and its eyes resemble plus signs. It has a dog-like muzzle, spots on its side, and pointy ears. There is a small ring of color on its legs, separating its legs from its paws.
The Meow Wow's name reflects the Dream Eater's hybridized cat-dog design; its Japanese name is a combination of "woof" (わんわん Wanwan ) and "meow" (にゃんにゃん Nyannyan ), but it is also a pun incorporating the word "wonder." The English name is a portmanteau formed through the combination of "meow" and "wow" as a pun on "bow wow," as well as the exclamation "wow".
Spirit
As a Spirit, the Meow Wow has a white underbody and muzzle. The top half of its body is blue in color, but can be changed using Paint Guns, and its blue ears possess black tips. Its rear end is black, and its stubby black tail has a pink tip. Its legs are black at the bottom with a pink band wrapping around the middle, and a short pink tongue hangs loosely out of its mouth. It has a small purple nose in the shape of an upside-down triangle, and it sports a short pink horn on its forehead. Three yellow spots decorate its sides, and the pupils of its circular black eyes take the shape of crosses. The Spirit Emblem appears on its chest.
Nightmare
As a Nightmare, it has a contrasting color scheme. The top half of its body is black, and the bottom is pink. It has white bands wrapping around its legs with black paws, and the Nightmare Emblem is located on its chest. The spots are purple in color, as are the tips of its ears. It has red round pupils and a mint green tongue, as well as white muzzle and pale blue horn on its forehead. And lastly possesses a white tail and a black nose.
Rare
As a Rare Dream Eater, it has a similar color scheme to the Nightmare. The top half of its body is glowing blue and green, and the bottom is pink. It has white bands wrapping around its legs with black paws, and the Nightmare Emblem is located on its chest. The spots are grey in color, as are the tips of its ears. It has red round pupils and a mint green tongue, as well as white muzzle and pale blue horn on its forehead. And lastly possesses a white tail and a black nose.
Kingdom Hearts III
Meow Wow appears as a summon, obtained from Yen Sid after completing Olympus. Meow Wow's Link is known as Meow Wow Balloon. Sora rides on Meow Wow's bouncing back to stomp on enemies. Its finish ability creates a burst of all the other Dream Eaters.
Strategy
The Meow Wow is a fairly common enemy that thrusts itself at Sora or Riku to attack. As an ally, the Meow Wow is a fairly effective healer. However, this Dream Eater is weak to Fire-based attacks.

Notes and references
- ^ Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Ultimania, Interviewer: "Which Dream Eaters did you design yourself?" / Tetsuya Nomura: "The only one I drew myself is Meow Wow. I drew it basically all in one go, and didn't edit it at all. As for the other Spirits, I showed Meow Wow to the staff and requested that they 'please give them a design that is strange, charming without being too cute'. They drew for me in high spirits, and came out with one interesting design after another." Translation via Goldpanner
