Thunder (card).png

Thunder (サンダー Sandā?), Thundara (サンダラ Sandara?), and Thundaga (サンダガ Sandaga?) are a series of magic introduced in Kingdom Hearts. They utilize the element of Lightning, and are associated with the Lightning material. Thunder spells summon lightning bolts from the sky to rain down on enemies, dealing Thunder-type damage.

Thunder is the first magic spell to appear in the Kingdom Hearts series. Donald Duck uses it to wake up a sleeping Goofy.

Mechanics

Kingdom Hearts

In Kingdom Hearts, Thundaga darkens the area and summons a cascade of lightning upon the targets.

In Kingdom Hearts, Thunder is offensive magic that can be used by Sora and Donald. Thunder calls down bolts of lightning to strike the target area. It is useful for hitting a group of enemies a distance. The higher-tier Thundara and Thundaga call down greater numbers of more powerful lightning bolts. Thunder costs 1 MP to use, and its power is determined by the following equations:

  • Thunder: Power = (Max MP x 2)+ 14.
  • Thundara: Power = (Max MP x 2) + 18.
  • Thundaga: Power = (Max MP x 2) + 22.

Genie may cast Thunder as part of his Showtime ability.

Thunder magic can be used to activate certain objects in the field, including the exposed wires in the Third District that activate the platforms inside the Gizmo Shop, certain kind of flowers in Wonderland, and the stone tablet on the upper level of the Entrance Hall that activates the moving platforms.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

In Re:Chain of Memories, the initial onslaught of lightning is summoned at the same time.

In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Thunder is a magic card that can be used by Sora.

The Genie summon card, the Donald and Jack Skellington friend cards, and their associated sleights can cast Thunder magic when used. Larxene also uses Thundara as her magic attack.

Kingdom Hearts II

In Kingdom Hearts II, a bolt strikes an enemy and then spreads outwards in a large radius.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Thunder drops a lightning bolt on a target, damaging nearby enemies. Thunder costs 15 MP to use in the original release and 18 MP in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

In 358/2 Days, a single bolt of lightning falls after a delay when Thundaga is cast.

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Thunder, Thundara, and Thundaga are magic panels. All three may jolt enemies, causing them to take damage from contact with enemies .

  •   Thunder brings down a string of lightning bolts that travels in a straight line.
  •   Thundara hits a broad area with many lightning bolts, similar to Thunder magic in Kingdom Hearts.
  •   Thundaga brings down a single, powerful bolt of lightning to strike the target directly.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

In Birth by Sleep, Thunder magic creates a ring of electricity around the user. Enemies within the ring are struck by lightning.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Thunder, Thundara, and Thundaga are magic commands that allow the user to strike surrounding enemies from above with lightning that shocks other nearby foes if it connects. Thundara and Thundaga have larger radii of effect.

  • Thunder is a Basic magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck, has a maximum level is 3 and a reload time of 10 seconds, and fills the Command Gauge by 20%.
  • Thundara is a Basic magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck, has a maximum level is 3 and a reload time of 10 seconds, and fills the Command Gauge by 25%.
  • Thundaga is an Advanced magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck, has a maximum level is 4 and a reload time of 15 seconds, and fills the Command Gauge by 30%.

Kingdom Hearts coded

In Kingdom Hearts coded, the Thunder license may be used from the Hero's License.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

The Re:coded version of Thunder magic functions similarly to Thunder magic in Re:Chain of Memories.

In Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Thunder, Thundara, and Thundaga are magic commands that allow the user to hit the surrounding area with multiple lightning bolts, potentially jolting enemies.

  •   Thunder has a memory consumption of 12%, a normal reload time of 10 seconds, and an ovespec reload time of 8 seconds.
  •   Thundara has a memory consumption of 15%, a normal reload time of 12 seconds, and an ovespec reload time of 11 seconds.
  •   Thundaga has a memory consumption of 16%, a normal reload time of 14 seconds, and an ovespec reload time of 13 seconds.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Thunder, Thundara, and Thundaga are magic commands that allow the user to strike nearby enemies with lightning. The lightning will jump to other nearby foes if it connects.

  • Thunder is a magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck and has a reload speed of 12 seconds. It grants +1 to Magic and +10 to Thunder Resistance when attached to a Dream Eater recipe.
  • Thundara is a magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck and has a reload speed of 18 seconds. It grants +2 to Magic and +15 to Thunder Resistance when attached to a Dream Eater recipe.
  • Thundaga is a magic command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck and has a reload speed of 26 seconds. It grants +3 to Magic and +20 to Thunder Resistance when attached to a Dream Eater recipe.
