In the real Twilight Town, he and his friends don't mention Roxas at all, but seem to recognize Sora slightly, because they had met Roxas in 358/2 Days. Also, he initially refuses to talk to them because they were busy with other matters at the time. However, he warms up to them and goes to see the trio off at the train station.

Hayner, Pence and Olette attempted to get into the Old Mansion when they discovered that there was an alternate Twilight Town, and they also wanted to search for Kairi, whom Hayner called "our friend too" - he was attacked by Dusks. However, he, being headstrong and street smart, along with his friends Pence and Olette, helped Sora and the gang find the way into the virtual Twilight Town. It was a tearful moment for the four of them. It had felt like they knew each other and were never going to see each other again.

Hayner, Pence, and Olette later find Ansem the Wise at the old mansion. While Pence attempts to distract Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, and Hayner attempts to kick him before being saved by a group of Dusks, Olette flees to safety with Ansem the Wise. Ansem the Wise meets Hayner, Pence, and Olette for the first time despite creating digital versions of them. Ansem the Wise becomes their lead on Roxas. Vexen appears, wishing to atone to Ansem.

Appearance
Hayner becomes friends with the real Roxas and sits with Olette, Pence, Lea, Xion, Roxas, and Isa. Hayner later goes to the beach of Destiny Islands with Roxas and the rest of the Twilight Town gang where they witness Sora fade from existence.
Hayner is a fifteen-year-old boy who wears camo shoes and pants and has blonde hair. He wears a light brown vest over a black muscle shirt that has a poorly drawn white skull and crossbones on it. He also wears a small necklace that has a golden "X" on it.

Personality
One year later, Hayner and the gang begin to study Roxas and Xion's memories to find any clues about Sora's whereabouts.
Hayner is impulsive and determined, and is always looking for a new adventure. He is bold to the point of recklessness, once even charging Axel unarmed. He gets bored easily during uneventful times, as demonstrated when he constantly pesters his friends to do something during their summer vacation. Hayner is also easily angered/irked, as shown in the very first scene in Twilight Town when he tells Pence, Olette and Roxas about how everyone labelled them thieves for stealing photos. He thirsts for some kind of recognition, as he is even irked when Roxas defeats him in the semi-final round of the Struggle tournament, leaving Hayner in fourth place (Hayner is soon moved up to third place when Seifer withdraws from the match).

Hayner is a very offensive fighter. He isn't very good at counter-attacking or parrying and he tends to leave himself open after using his own attacks. Hayner will attack with a downward swing, a jumping uppercut, a stabbing attack, and a wide-arc swing. He doesn't seem to be very coordinated but can pack a lot of power.
An opponent named Hayner appears in the Beginner's Cup.

Trivia
In Kingdom Hearts III, he wears a redesigned version of his past outfit. His shirt is white and the skull is now black, smaller, and moved to the bottom. His vest is black with red-and-black plaid on the bottom. His pants are slightly distressed jeans and his shoes share the same red-and-black plaid design.
*Hayner is one of the few characters in the series that serves as an event boss who is an original character but not a Nobody or a Heartless. Others include Riku, Braig, Xehanort, and Master Xehanort.
*If you look in the Kingdom Hearts II guide book in the part of enemies, Hayner is considered to be a Nobody, not a normal character. This is indicated by the Nobody symbol next to his part of the page. A normal character is shown to have a spiky wheel symbol. It's odd because you only fight Hayner in Struggle battles and he is not a Nobody.
*Hayner greatly resembles Zell Dincht from Final Fantasy VIII; he even shares a rivalry with the game's incarnation of Seifer.
*Axel's complete being, Lea, resembles Hayner.
*Hayner is one of the three male original characters in the Kingdom Hearts series to wear sleeveless outfits, the other two being Riku and Lea.

Hayner is a resident of Twilight Town. Hayner is a friend of Pence and Olette (and Roxas, or at least the virtual version of himself) and is also the rival of Seifer. He appears in Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts III alongside Pence and Olette.

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]

When Roxas visits Twilight Town while on vacation, he meets Hayner, who had been working on his Grandstander act, along with Olette and also Pence, whom he had already met. Hayner is initially cold towards Roxas, but once Roxas proves himself by doing the Grandstander, Hayner becomes much more friendly.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Roxas and virtual Hayner promise a fair fight in the Struggle tournament.

In DiZ's Simulated Twilight Town, Hayner was Roxas's close friend. His boredom caused him to suggest that the group take a trip to the beach (prompting DiZ and Riku to intervene, as no virtual beach existed). In the Struggle tournament, he faces Roxas in the first round and loses. Hayner holds loyalty and promises highly, and saw through his jealousy when he sees Roxas with Seifer and his emphasis on the promise he and Roxas made to share the winnings of the tournament. His jealousy is short-lived, though, as Seifer withdraws from the tournament and Hayner is moved up to third place, allowing him to share the winnings with Roxas.

In the real Twilight Town, he and his friends don't mention Roxas at all, but seem to recognize Sora slightly, because they had met Roxas in 358/2 Days. Initially, he is somewhat hostile towards Sora, presumably because he, Donald, and Goofy barged in on their usual hangout while exploring Twilight Town upon their release from stasis. Also, he initially refuses to talk to them because they were busy with other matters at the time. However, he warms up to them and goes to see the trio off at the train station.

When Kairi made it to Twilight Town, Hayner and the group befriended her. When Axel abducted Kairi, Hayner tried to save Kairi by swinging at Axel, but missed.

Hayner, Pence, and Olette attempted to get into the Old Mansion when they discovered that there was an alternate Twilight Town and went there to search for Kairi, but they are attacked by Dusks. However, he, Pence, and Olette help Sora and co. find the way into the virtual Twilight Town.

Hayner is also a competent fighter and is seen facing off against his rival Seifer in the finals of the Struggle competition sometime after Sora and Riku return to their islands.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Hayner, Pence, and Olette run away from a Demon Tide and Sora defeats it. Hayner, Pence, and Olette agree to help Sora look for Roxas. Before they depart, they all take a group selfie together. They first search around town before catching up with Sora in the old mansion. While Pence works on the computer with Ienzo, Hayner and Olette go work their short job putting up special posters for Scrooge McDuck so they can save up munny for the beach.

Hayner attempts to drop-kick Ansem.
Hayner attempts to kick Ansem, Seeker of Darkness.

Hayner, Pence, and Olette later find Ansem the Wise at the old mansion. When they see Ansem the Wise with Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and how he feels bad for what he did to Roxas, they knew he was a friend of Roxas and in trouble, so they devise a plan to save Ansem the Wise from Ansem, Seeker of Darkness.

Hayner becomes friends with the real Roxas and sits with Olette, Pence, Lea, Xion, Roxas, and Isa. Hayner later goes to the beach of Destiny Islands with Roxas and the rest of the Twilight Town gang where they witness Sora fade from existence.

One year later, Hayner and the gang begin to study Roxas and Xion's memories to find any clues about Sora's whereabouts.

Other appearances[edit]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]

An opponent named Hayner appears in the Beginner's Cup.

Design[edit]

Hayner as he appears in Kingdom Hearts II.

Hayner has brown eyes, light skin, dark eyebrows, and spiky, blond hair.

In Kingdom Hearts II, he wears baggy, camouflage-print capris pants, a short, sleeveless, grey vest, and a black muscle shirt decorated with a white, crudely-drawn skull and crossbones. His shoes are the same camouflage pattern as his pants, but also sport white tips, grey soles, and each has two intersecting, black belts in place of laces. Hayner also wears a white necklace with a yellow "X" charm on it and a brown bracelet on his left wrist with several silver pins in it.

Personality[edit]

Hayner is impulsive and determined, and is always looking for a new adventure. He is bold to the point of recklessness, once even charging Axel and Ansem, Seeker of Darkness unarmed. He gets bored easily during uneventful times, as demonstrated when he constantly pesters his friends to do something during their summer vacation. Hayner is also easily angered, as shown in the very first scene in Twilight Town when he tells Pence, Olette and Roxas about how everyone labeled them thieves for stealing photos. He thirsts for some kind of recognition, as he is even irked when Roxas defeats him in the semi-final round of the Struggle tournament, leaving Hayner in fourth place (Hayner is soon moved up to third place when Seifer withdraws from the match). He is also shown to have a kind and caring side when he says he's "Don't forget the pretzels. gotta buy four now" showing he wasn't just thinking of just his friends, but also Roxas despite barely knowing of him.

In Kingdom Hearts III, Hayner is shown to utter malapropisms when trying to use big words. When trying describe how odd the consecutive Heartless and Nobody attacks in the town was, Hayner said it was "underpresedented" instead of the correct "unprecedented".
