It's a struggle just to remember the name now.

This article is about a topic that has not been named in any official Square Enix material. Its title is merely a placeholder. |
The Black Guards are antagonists that appear in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. They originated from the Disney film, Tron: Legacy. They also serve as fightable enemies, much like the Undead Pirates in Port Royal and the Cards in Wonderland.
Development
In the Jump Festa 2012 trailer, Riku is mounted on a light cycle while fighting a Black Guard in The Grid. In a scan, Riku is seen being held by several guards.
Story
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Sora encounters four Black Guards after chasing a Regonizer. They demand his ID, but Sora does not understand what they meant by ID and introduces himself. However, Sora's name is not regonised and he is mistaken for a stray program. The guards then grab him and pull him to the Regonizer, but Sora breaks free and escapes.
Some Black Guards find Riku and, mistaking him for a stray program, attempt to force him onto a Regonizer, but he brushes them off and boards willingly. They later race Riku in a Light Cycle race, but are easily defeated.
Appearance
They all wear black suits with orange circuitry to show they've been reprogrammed by CLU. They wear helmets to prevent originality. Unlike Rinzler, they are all uniform in appearance. They carry staves with orange circuits. Their backpacks can also sprout orange wings to allow flight.
Personality
Being reprogrammed by CLU to serve as his minions, the guards have little personality of their own other than following his orders. However, in the film, they have shown to act like normal programs when not on duty, since several guards can be seen in the End of Line club.
Origin
The Black Guards debuted in Tron: Legacy. Like Tron, they were all reprogrammed to serve as CLU's army and henchmen. Many appeared on the Rectifier during CLU's speach about invading the userworld to perfect it. Flynn managed to reprogram one (by tampering with his Identidy Disk, then hitting him in the head) to allow him to steal a Fighter Jet. It's unknown what happened to the Black Guards following the destruction of the Portal and CLU.
