Formchange is a mechanic introduced in Kingdom Hearts III. Formchange allows Sora to change his abilities or the form of his Keyblade. Formchanges are triggered via Situation Command after achieving sufficient damage with a Keyblade. Certain Keyblades will also have the ability to Formchange a second time. Formchange is a mechanic that borrows cosmetic and technical concepts from Command Styles and Drive Forms both.

- Second Form (2ndフォーム 2nd Fōmu, lit. "2nd Form") - A form that grants Sora clothing based on his outfit from Kingdom Hearts II and gives him access to familiar abilities. It is triggered by the Kingdom Key, Starlight, Midnight Blue, Phantom Green, and Dawn Till Dusk. The Keyblade used determines the third level finisher.
- Guardian Form (ガーディアンフォ一ム Gādian Fōmu) - A Drive Form that emphasizes defensive capabilities. Triggered by Hero's Origin, Hunny Spout, and Classic Tone.
- Strike Form (ストライクフォ一ム Sutoraiku Fōmu) - A form that grants Sora red clothing with an urban camouflage design and transforms his Keyblade for powerful attacks. Triggered by Favorite Deputy, Happy Gear, and Wheel of Fate.
- Element Form (エレメントフォーム Eremento Fōmu) - A form that possesses aptitude in magic and long-range attacks. It allows Sora to glide along the ground and grants the ability to cast magic while moving. Triggered by Shooting Star and Ever After.
- Blitz Form (ブリッツォーム Burittsu Fōmu) - A form that emphasizes speed and mobility. Triggered by Crystal Snow, Nano Gear, and Grand Chef.
- Rage Form (レイジフォーム Reiji Fōmu) - Sora takes on the appearance of a Pureblood Heartless, similar to AntiForm, and envelops his Keyblade in darkness for quick and powerful attacks. It has a chance to activate when Sora reaches critical health, regardless of current Keyblade.
- Ultimate Form (アルティメットフォーム Arutimetto Fōmu) - Triggered exclusively by Ultima Weapon's Formchange, it changes Sora's clothes to a design very similar to Final Form. It allows him to teleport around the battlefield and wield multiple swords in battle, overwhelming enemies with fast and powerful swipes that also possess great range.
Trivia
- While Formchange as a mechanic has not been introduced until Kingdom Hearts III, the act of transforming Keyblades has been in previous games. In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the Lingering Will is able to change his Keyblade into different forms and sets; in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, No Heart is able to morph their Keyblade; and Young Xehanort is able to morph his Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
