—Sulley to Boo

James P. Sullivan, also known as Sulley, is a CEO and former top-scarer introduced in Kingdom Hearts III, and originally taken from the Disney/Pixar film Monsters, Inc. He is in charge of the Monsters, Inc. energy corporation that supplies power to Monstropolis, assisted by his old friend Mike Wazowski, but comes into conflict with his former coworker, Randall Boggs.

Story

Before Kingdom Hearts III

Sulley was initially the top scarer of Monsters, Inc., where he worked alongside his partner and best friend Mike Wazowski. One evening, he discovered Boo's door and accidentally let her loose throughout Monstropolis. While trying to send her home, Sulley grows to care for Boo. It was during this time that he discovered a conspiracy with Randall attempting to forcefully extract screams from children, starting with Boo. With her help, Sulley and Mike banished Randall to the Human World and discovered laughter was ten times more powerful than screams. Sulley would later become CEO of Monster's Inc. Kingdom Hearts III

During one of their play dates with Boo, Sulley and Mike discover Sora, Donald, and Goofy entering the factory. They introduce themselves to the group just as the Unversed appear, frightening Boo. Taking Boo to safety, Sulley and Mike help the others fend off the Unversed. After deliberating on the situation, Sulley is convinced to return Boo home to keep her safe. As he explains to Sora of the origins of Monster's Inc., they find the Unversed loose in the Laugh Floor, entering children's doors, collecting their scream energy.

After defeating the Unversed, Sulley leads the other through the Door Vault to chase after Boo's doors. However, the group ends up getting lost through the Factory due to Randall's manipulation. When Randall takes control of the factory control system, Sulley and the others evade Randall's traps while protecting Boo from harm. The team arrives at the central control unit, where Sulley suggest making Boo laugh to short circuit the device. When it works, Sulley leads the group through the power plant to reach the door vault.

However, they discover the Heartless and Unversed have started a fire throughout the station. With help from the CDA, the fire is put out while Sulley leads them back to the Door Vault. The team is intercepted by Randall, who unleashes the Lump of Horror to battle them. The team manages to defeat the Unversed while Sulley subdues Randall, forcing him back to the Human World. After Sora seals Randall's door, Sulley and the others prepare to send Boo home. To their surprise, they, along with the door, are pulled to the Laugh Floor.

When they arrive, they are confronted by Vanitas, who Sulley and Mike realized was the one who brought Randall back. As Vanitas prepares to extract Ventus from Sora's heart, Sulley appears behind him and holds him in place. With Mike's help, Sulley throws Vanitas through a series a doors before shredding the final one, preventing his return. Afterwards, Sulley returns Boo home. Returning to the Lobby, Sulley and Mike bid farewell to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, wishing them well.

Sometimes after Xehanort's defeat, Sulley cradles Boo, who is sleeping in his arms. When Mike is about to scare Sulley from behind, Sulley signals Mike not to wake Boo up. They both take Boo back to her door to her bedroom and watch her asleep before closing the door quietly.

Design

Sulley is a large furry cyan blue monster with dark blue spots. He has blue eyes, a small tail, and horns.

Personality

Befitting the "gentle giant" type, Sulley is known for being polite and kind to his coworkers and everyone he meets. Despite his intimidating size, Sulley is not a violent man, preferring to use his words first. He has a big heart, caring for Boo and protecting her from the Unversed. Unlike Mike, Sulley has a more typical sense of humor, as he has made Boo laugh the most.

Abilities

Kingdom Hearts III

Sulley is a heavily offensive party member. He uses his claws to strike at enemies, which deal a good amount of damage. Other skills of his include charging towards enemies with his shoulder, jumping high into the air and performing a ground slam, and letting out a mighty roar that sends shockwaves across the area. He also has a team attack with Mike and Sora called Scream Strike, where Sora, Donald, Goofy, Sully, and Mike all roar together, Damaging enemies, and then Sora uses Mike as a bowling ball to deal damage to enemies.

Origin

James P. "Sulley" Sullivan first appeared in the 2001 Pixar film Monsters, Inc., voiced by John Goodman. He is the "Top Scarer" at Monsters, Inc. One day, a girl sneaks into the facility and he tries to hide her from the other monsters. He nicknames her Boo and Sulley grows attached to her while Mike wants to get rid of her.

Sulley later appeared in the film's 2013 prequel, Monsters University, which detailed how he and Mike first met in college, a fact alluded to in Mike's Kingdom Hearts III journal entry.
