Orichalcum is a material type available in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Orichalcum materials contain the rarest of metals. In Kingdom Hearts II, the Orichalcum was redubbed as the "Orichalcum+", while the new material Orichal (オリハル Oriharu?) took the name "Orichalcum". Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix introduced two variations of the Orichalcum, the Manifest Illusion (現れた幻影 Arawareta Genei?) and the Lost Illusion (失われた幻影 Ushinawareta Genei?), dropped only by the Lingering Will and Replica Data bosses, respectively.

Design

A basic Orichalcum is represented by a star-shaped, aqua-colored jewel. Its upper half is lined by five triangular spikes that alternate from large to small. Its lower half has two slanted spikes on either side and one diamond-shaped spike on its bottom. The center of the jewel is adorned by white sparkles.

An Orichalcum+ is represented by a large, aqua-colored jewel. It is more snowflake-like in design that a basic Orichalcum. Its top half is lined by five triangular spikes that alternate from large to small in size. The two smaller spikes fork into three points at their tips, and all five spikes are connected by four thin bars. Its lower half is lined by four slanted spikes, two on each side of the jewel. One large, diamond-shaped spike is placed on its bottom, and there are white sparkles decorating the center of the jewel.

A Manifest Illusion is represented by a blue and cyan jewel. This jewel resembles two diamonds with concave edges stacked on top of each other. The lower diamond is slightly larger and has two spikes jutting from both of its upper sides. Two large, wing-like additives connected to the lower diamond's side corners. Both of these additives are angular and sport three "feathers".

A Lost Illusion is represented by a blue and cyan jewel. This jewel resembles two diamonds with concave edges stacked on top of each other. The lower diamond is slightly larger and has two spikes jutting from both of its upper sides. Two large, wing-like additives connected to the lower diamond's side corners. Both of these additives sport three "feathers", the topmost of which is twice as long as the others and has a pointed end, as opposed to the flat tips of the others. The base of the lower diamond is lined by four thin, conical spikes.

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Orichalcum has a Mineral material structure and is light pink in color.

Orichalcum is a metal mentioned in numerous ancient writings, and was supposedly second-only to gold in value. An "illusion" is anything that appears to be something that it isn't, and Illusion materials are only dropped by the Organization XIII Replica Data and the Lingering Will, none of which are the beings they seem to be. "Lost" reference the fact that the Organization XIII Replica Data bosses are copies of Organization members that have already faded away. "Manifest" may reflect the fact that the Lingering Will was created by Terra's emotions manifesting in his discarded armor.

Notes and references

  1. ^ The Bulky Vendor drops an Orichalcum 10% of the time if the Capsule Prize reaction is used on it, 12% of the time if the Rare Capsule reaction is used on it, 16% of the time if the Limited Capsule reaction is used on it, and 18% of the time if the Prime Capsule reaction is used on it.
  2. ^ An Energy Crystal is required to reduce the Orichalcum+ required for the Ultima Weapon, as there are only seven in the game.
