Kingdom Hearts III |
Monsters, Inc. (2001) An employee at Monsters, Incorporated and Sulley's best buddy since college. He cares for Boo like one of his own. |
- "For the record, I still get the most laughs!"
Michael "Mike" Wazowski is a top-laugher and former station runner and coach of Sulley on the scare floor introduced in Kingdom Hearts III. He originated in the Disney/Pixar film Monsters, Inc. He is a friend of Sulley.
Story
Before Kingdom Hearts III
Mike met Sulley while in college and the two would grow to become best friends and the top scare team at Monsters, inc., with Mike working as his scaring assistant. One evening, after Sulley accidentally let Boo loose throughout Monstropolis, Mike worked together with him to return Boo to her home. While initially fearful of Boo, Mike eventually grew to care for Boo, helping Sulley rescue her from Randall when he attempted to extract her screams by force. After banishing Randall to the Human world and returning Boo home, Mike and Sulley discovered that laughter was ten times more powerful than scream. With Sulley becoming the new CEO, Mike would go on to hold the record for highest laughs.
Kingdom Hearts III
During one of their play dates with Boo, Sulley and Mike discover Sora, Donald, and Goofy entering the factory. Mike initially tries to make an excuse on why Boo is here but Sora excuses them of scaring her. He denies the objection, stating that they are done relying on scare power. After settling the misunderstanding, they introduce themselves to the group just as the Unversed appear, frightening Boo. Mike and Sulley help the others fend off the Unversed. With the situation growing dangerous, Mike convinces Sulley to return Boo home, which he agrees. As they at the Laugh Floor, they discover the Unversed entering children's doors, collecting their scream energy.
After defeating the Unversed, Mike and the others go through the Door Vault to chase after Boo's doors. However, the group ends up getting lost through the Factory due to Randall's manipulation. When Randall takes control of the factory control system, Mike and Sulley protect Boo from harm while the others evade Randall's traps. The team arrives at the central control unit, where Sulley suggest making Boo laugh to short circuit the device. Mike tries to make her laugh but his jokes fall short of laughter, as no one understands it. With Sora's help, they succed in making Boo laugh, which opens the passage through the power plant.
When entering the power plant, they discover the Heartless and Unversed have started a fire throughout the station. With help from the CDA, the fire is put out while the group arrives at the Door Vault. The team is intercepted by Randall, who unleashes devices, which Mike dismisses after it's previous failure. However, the device transforms in the Lump of Horror, which forces them battle the Unversed. When the Unversed is defeated, Mike signals Sulley to subdue Randall, forcing him back to the Human World. After Sora seals Randall's door, they prepare to send Boo home. To their surprise, they, along with the door, are pulled to the Laugh Floor.
When they arrive, they are confronted by Vanitas, who Sulley and Mike realized was the one who brought Randall back. Mike angrily states how the Unversed have been ruining their company, but is held back by Sulley. As Vanitas prepares to extract Ventus from Sora's heart, Sulley appears behind him and holds him in place. Mike prepares several doors, with Sulley throwing Vanitas into them before shredding the final door, preventing his return. Afterwards, Mike says goodbye to Boo before she returns home. Returning to the Lobby, Sulley and Mike bid farewell to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, wishing them well with Mike stating he still holds the best laughs.
After Xehanort's defeat, Mike tries to scare Sulley from behind, but stops when he sees that Sulley is holding a sleeping Boo and smiles. He and Sulley take Boo back to her door to her bedroom and watch her asleep before closing the door quietly.
Appearance
Mike is a short green monster with thin arms and legs. He has one giant turquoise eye and miniature horns.
Personality
Befitting the size of his mouth, Mike tends to be very vocal and loud. He tends to speak before thinking, often having to correct himself when he fumbles and says the opposite of what he means. Mike possesses a sense of humor that tends to go over the heads of children (which he doesn't seem to understand), as he tries making a joke about losing a contact to make Boo laugh. Regardless, Mike is a quick thinking and one of the top laugh collectors at Monster's Inc. He thinks about Sulley's image as the president of the company a lot, when his friend doesn't.
Abilities
Kingdom Hearts III
Mike is a party member that focuses on using skills and spells that benefits himself and his allies for a set duration. While executing his abilities, he remains immobile and may be vulnerable to enemy attacks unless Sora intervenes. In contrast to Sulley's abilities that focus more on offensive attacks, roars and pounces, Mike buffs his allies endlessly until he runs out of MP. Sora could also use a joint attack alongside the two monsters to throw Mike as a bowling ball towards an enemy to deal small damage that lasts for quite a while.
Origin
Michael "Mike" Wazowski first appeared in the 2001 film Monsters, Inc., voiced by Billy Crystal. He is Sulley's station runner and coach on the scare floor at Monsters, Inc. One day, a girl sneaks into the facility. Mike discovers Sulley is keeping her a secret and wishes for Sulley to get rid of her. Mike is also seeking a love life with another monster named Celia Mae.
Mike later appeared in the film's 2013 prequel, Monsters University, which detailed how he and Sulley first met in college, a fact alluded to in his Kingdom Hearts III journal entry.
