Verum Rex (Latin for "True King") is a fictional video game set in Quadratum that exists in Toy Box, a world from Kingdom Hearts III based on Toy Story. Developed by Square Enix for the Play Plus video game console, the game is part of a franchise including a cartoon series, a toyline, and a demo named Verum Rex: Beat of Lead, which serves as one of the mini-games in Kingdom Hearts III.

Development

Verum Rex was originally referred to as Invictus in early development with Quadratum depicted as vibrant neon city.[1] [2]

After the conclusion of the Dark Seeker Saga, Nomura considered Verum Rex as the next game in the series and discussed it with series co-director Yasushi Yasue. In the end, Nomura decided on Kingdom Hearts IV to be the next game in development because it'd be difficult to develop two big console games at the same time.[3]

Story

Kingdom Hearts III

"That's the story of the King of Truth. Reclaim your heart.
After a long fight, weapons have brought great benefits for humanity.
But the "KARMA" that sleeps in humans will accelerate further.
In the light of the warhead in the night sky, they chose to fight while feeling the pain of their hearts...
A journey without a place to return.
The world is to all humans to turn a page.
What is eternal bond.

Merchandise

Several items of Verum Rex merchandise are available at Galaxy Toys. Sora, Donald, and Goofy's forms in Toy Box have the appearance of action figures, with outfits resembling those of characters from the game; Sora resembles Yozora, while Donald and Goofy resemble Yozora's teammates. Gigas action figures, large enough to host another toy in the cockpit, are on display in several locations throughout Galaxy Toys, with three varieties based on the Power Class, Speed Class, and Gunner Class enemies. The Video Game store on the third floor has the video game itself for sale, available in a "Standard Edition" and "Limited Edition", along with an Official Strategy Guide published by QO Games.
