"Destati" is a song featured in the Kingdom Hearts series. Like "Dearly Beloved," variations of "Destati" are used throughout the Kingdom Hearts series.
In Italian, Destati is an imperative to "awaken!" It accompanies the conflict of light over darkness, a major theme in the series.
Appearances
Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
"Destati" was first used in early commercials for Kingdom Hearts. For the game, it serves as the battle theme during the Dive into the Heart opening section, as well as the first Darkside boss fight.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, the Drammatica variant of "Destati" is heard in A Fragmentary Passage.
Kingdom Hearts χ
"Destati" is primarily used as a Raid Boss boss battle theme against Darkside, but is also used in cutscenes.
Cutscenes
- Opening: "Darkside"
Composition
"Destati" is approximately two minutes and fifty-five seconds in Kingdom Hearts. In the HD remake of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, the piece is slightly shortened to two minutes and fifty-three seconds. In the Drammatica album, the piece is three minutes and twenty-one seconds.
Variations
The songs below are based on the main themes of "Destati."
- "Dive into the Heart -Destati-" is featured as the field theme for Dive to the Heart in both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, as well as when selecting a character in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (which fittingly, occurs in the Dive to the Heart). A faster-paced version with the same name was used for the battle theme in Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts III features a new variant labelled "Third Inception" and once again serves as the theme for Dive to the Heart. Portions of this version play when Sora confronts the Lich in the Final World and Darkside in Scala ad Caelum.
- "Fragments of Sorrow" is the battle theme for End of the World in Kingdom Hearts and for Dive to the Heart in Kingdom Hearts II.
- "End of the World" is the field theme for End of the World.
- "Guardando nel buio" is the boss theme for the last battle against World of Chaos.
- "Darkness of the Unknown," although mainly based on the song Another Side, contains a brief element from "Destati," which plays from the 4:36 to 4:45 mark. This song plays during the final battle against Xemnas.
- "Dismiss," the boss theme for Aqua's final battle against Terra-Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, uses elements from both "Destati" and "Fate of the Unknown."
- A fuller, bolder version of "Destati" appears in Drammatica, which features Yoko Shimomura's most popular works. The last part of this variant track appears in the ending of A Fragmentary Passage.
- "L'Eminenza Oscura I" and "L'Eminenza Oscura II" both contain elements of previous Destati-themed tracks, these being "Guardando nel buio" and "Dismiss," respectively.
- "My Heart's Descent" is a more subdued, ethereal version of the first part of the original "Destati" track that plays during Riku's literal Dive into Sora's heart right before the battle against the Armored Ventus Nightmare in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
- "The Eye of Darkness," the boss theme for Riku's final battle against the Armored Ventus Nightmare in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is a highly percussive remix of the original "Destati" track, featuring a fuller rhythm section, chimes, and brass, making it sound much grander than the standard theme.
- "Dark Domination" combines "Destati" and Rage Awakened. This song is played during the final battle against Master Xehanort and also plays during the fight against his armored replica in the Re:Mind scenario.

Trivia
- According to Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, "Destati" is somewhat a "cursed song." Since the chorus is often used in other pieces, whenever the chorus is loaded by Square Enix staff, something bad happens, an example being the entire building's electricity getting cut off.[1]
Notes and references
- ^ Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, interview with Sound Team; Yoko Shimomura: "In the beginning and ending of the game, there is a song with a chorus. That chorus is a phrase that expresses the dark side of Kingdom Hearts, and it was used in several songs. However, once we tried loading the chorus data in when we were creating the songs, something bad would happen. The worst thing that happened was when the electricity to the building was cut off."
