At the start of the film, Olaf is an inanimate snowman created by Elsa for Anna when the two were little, only to collapse after Elsa accidentally freezes Anna. As revealed in ''{{w|Olaf's Frozen Adventure}}'', Olaf's memory would remain when the two sisters were separated, with Anna sending Elsa artwork of Olaf every year. Thirteen years later, Elsa recreates Olaf when testing her powers, but unknowingly brings him to life.
