Composition[edit]
"Having a Wild Time" is approximately two minutes and twenty-five seconds long in Kingdom Hearts. In the HD remake, the piece is two minutes and twenty-six seconds long.
The in-game versions have a time signature of 4/4 time and tempo of 145 beats per minute.
The piece has a four-measure introduction consisting only of drums. In measure five, the woodwind section (primarily flutes) and synthesizer take the melodic line. Interrupting throughout this section is the harp with a short, higher pitched rhythmic figure. The complete piece is a trade off between two major sections: The first being the flutes, synthesizer, and strings with the melody, while drums accompany underneath. The second being the mallet percussion stealing the melody, and accompanied only by drums. When both sections have traded off once, they combined to create the transitional loop back to the first theme. This transitional loop crescendos throughout the segment, as heard in the drums, synthesizer, crash cymbals, and mallet percussion. Towards the end of this loop, signaled by the harp, the flute voice returns, playing a variation of the opening motif. The flute is "interrupted" by the drums, signaling a return to the first theme.
Similar to the field theme, the tone throughout this piece is primitive and archaic. As accustomed with battle themes, the piece explores more in texture, in regards to dynamic contrast and instrumentation. The instrumentation for both versions consists of: strings, flutes, brass, drums, crash cymbals, synthesizer, and mallet percussion.
