Kingdom Hearts |
The gorilla who found Tarzan in the jungle. She has always helped and defended him, even when he was scorned by the others. Kala is not happy about Tarzan's contact with people, but she knows it's important to him. She was second banana in "Tarzan" (1999). |
Kala is Tarzan's adoptive mother, and Kerchak's mate. Debuting in Disney's 1999 film, Tarzan, her role is considerably larger in the film than in Kingdom Hearts.
Story[edit]
Kingdom Hearts[edit]
Kala stays by Kerchak's side as Tarzan asks them to trust Jane, Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Later on, Clayton and the Heartless attack Kala, but Sora and Tarzan intervene just in time. In gratitude, Kerchak leads Sora to Deep Jungle's Keyhole.
Design[edit]
Kala is an adult, female gorilla with brown fur and eyes. Her skin, visible on her toes, fingers, face, and belly, is light tan in coloration.
Personality[edit]
Kala is silent, philosophical, and very friendly and accepting towards Tarzan and his friends. She is very compassionate, and although she is uncertain of Sora and his friends upon their first meeting, she accepts them in the end.
Origin[edit]
Kala first appeared in Disney's 1999 animated feature film, Tarzan, voiced by Glenn Close. In the film, Kala and Kerchak's child was killed by Sabor. Kala later found Tarzan as a baby in a treehouse and saved him from Sabor. Kerchak accepted Tarzan into the family, but not as his son. Kala raises Tarzan into a troublesome young boy and into a man. Kala reveals to Tarzan his origins and allows him to leave with Jane, Clayton, and Professor Porter. Kala is captured by Clayton and his men but was later freed by Tarzan and Jane. Kala stays by Kerchak after he is wounded by Clayton and dies, Tarzan becoming the new leader. Kala accepts Jane and her father into the family.
