The Anti Black Coat is a Nightmare Dream Eater that appears in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. He is the physical manifestation of a nightmare that has trapped Sora.

Story

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

The Anti Black Coat appears when Riku tries to wake Sora from his deep sleep. He battles the Keyblade wielder and vanishes upon his defeat.

Design

As its name suggests, the Anti Black Coat wears a black coat. Its circular, red eyes are visible from underneath the coat's hood. It bears the Nightmare Dream Eater insignia on its back and magenta flame designs on its sleeves and coattails.

Strategy

Riku should maintain a hit-and-run/block strategy when fighting the Anti Black Coat, as the Nightmare attacks every time Riku staggers him. He can avoid a majority of the boss's attacks with well-timed Dodge Rolls or Dark Barrier. To damage the boss, he should rely on using his commands like Balloon spells or Shadowbreaker at the right moment mostly when the Nightmare is close and not about to teleport. Curaga is essential during this battle as well, for it can quickly replenish Riku's HP if he is hit by the Anti Black Coat's "Shadow Steal" technique, that can be avoided by either blocking or dodging forward. The Nightmare can use this technique at any random moment, noticeably when combined with other attacks or when he is idling, and if he follows this attack by any other one while Riku is getting freed, it can become a guaranteed Game Over. If Riku gets hit while the Nightmare is near him, the latter can heal up to almost his entire HP. Provided Riku has Once More and Second Chance equipped, the HP orbs that are spread across the battlefield can act as a failsafe in case Curaga is still in cool down or if Leaf Bracer isn't equipped. Riku may as well combine Doubleflight followed by Firaga Burst and Ice Barrage for a temporary safe spot, making him avoid most of the boss's attacks while dealing major damage, as most of said attacks cannot hit Riku, with the exception of Poison Arrow. Shadow Steal can still hit Riku while in midair if he isn't at a sufficient height.

Technique Element Status Power Block?
Wild Arcanum (ワイルドアルカナム
Wairudo Arukanamu
?)
Attack Command Physical 0.5 x6
Swings and thrust his weapon six times with a blade in hand.
Poison Arrow (ポイズンアロー
Poizun Arō
?)
Magic Command Dark Poison (100%/10s) 0.25 per hit
Scatters a large amount of dark projectiles that track the opponent at high speed.

The homing curve of these projectiles is very wide, making said homing inaccurate.
Scissor Bite (Horizontal) (シザーバイト(横)
Shizā Baito (Yoko)
?)
Magic Command Physical 1.5
Gathers dark power before releasing an X-shaped claw of darkness. The claw of darkness follows the opponent along the ground, and attacks by clasping the opponent when close.
Scissor Bite (Vertical) (シザーバイト(縦)
Shizā Baito (Tate)
?)
Magic Command Physical 0.4 per hit
Gathers dark power before generating darkness at the opponent's feet, where claws thrust out from one after another.
Shadow Steal (シャドウスティール
Shadō Sutīru
?)
(tentacle) Magic Command Physical 0.05

(restraint) Magic Command Physical (Reduce to 1 HP)

X
Extends a shadow towards the opponent that tracks them, with tentacles thrusting out at the tip. When a tentacle hits, the opponent is restrained, and 20 small HP prizes are scattered around.

Each HP prize grabbed by the Anti Black Coat Nightmare heals around 1/5 of his current HP bar. Big HP prizes are scattered around instead under the HP Showers Forecast. Riku's HP will stay at 1 until he gets freed, regardless of any healing by his Spirits. If they get hit, the Spirits are unaffected by the "Reduce to 1HP" effect and HP prizes never get scattered from them.
Guard/Block: △ = Can be blocked; O = Can be blocked and interrupted (melee) or deflected back (projectile); X = Cannot be blocked.
