Composition[edit]

"Deep Jungle" is approximately three minutes long in Kingdom Hearts. In the HD remake, the piece is three minutes and one second long.

The in-game versions have a time signature of 4/4 time and tempo of 120 beats per minute.

The piece has a brief, two-measure introduction consisting only of flutes. Starting in the third measure, the low brass, synthesizer, and lower strings are introduced, providing a solid, chordal foundation. Measures three through fourteen is not the first theme, but more so an extension of the introduction. During this segment, the percussion section (including drums and mallet percussion) are the most dominant voice. Towards the end of this segment, the percussion section gives way to the accented, staggered entrances of brass sections and crash cymbals. These voices crescendo into measure fifteen, where the flute returns to claim the melody. This second section consists of measure fifteen through thirty-eight. In this segment, the flute and upper strings have the main melody, while the percussion and lower brass provide similar staggered dynamics, entrances, and rhythmic motifs from before. The next section, measures thirty-nine through forty-four serve as a transitional loop back to the first theme. During this transitional period, the percussion section regains the main role with accompanying strings and brass.

The tone throughout the piece is very primitive and archaic, suitable to the wild jungle environment it is intended to reflect. Despite such an environment, the piece does not expand much in regards to dynamic contrast or tempos. The instrumentation for both versions consists of: strings, flutes, brass, drums, crash cymbals, synthesizer, and mallet percussion.
