"Missing You" is approximately forty-six seconds in length and plays at a steady 64 beats per minute in a slow 4/4 meter. It is written in the key of e minor, and makes frequent use of leading tone suspensions as with many Kingdom Hearts pieces. While piano is the featured instrument, strings can be heard in the first phrase. The simple chordal melody is supported by ostinato arpeggio 8th notes in the left hand.
