Type A and Type B Save Points as they appear in Kingdom Hearts.

Save Points (セーブポイント Sēbu Pointo?), also called Save Spots, are places within worlds where the player can save the game. Standing on a Save Point fully restores the character's HP and MP and may give access to special menus such as party organization, world or area travel, or various mini-games.

Save Points are dispersed throughout each world. In more segmented worlds, Save Points will typically appear every three or four rooms, while more open worlds usually have at least one Save Point per major area of the map. Save Points commonly appear in safe areas where enemies cannot spawn or near the entrance or exit of a room. If there are enemies near a Save Point, it cannot be activated until all enemies are defeated.

Appearances[edit]

Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Type A and Type B Save Points as they appear in Kingdom Hearts II.

Save Points are divided into two types; Type A and Type B. Type A Save Points remain throughout the game, regardless of how far the player has progressed in the storyline. In addition to the regular features of the Save Points, some Type A Save Points also serve as a link between the Gummi Ship and the world currently being visited, meaning that once activated (by touching them for the first time), one can teleport from the Save Point to the Gummi Ship and vice versa. In Kingdom Hearts II, these may become temporarily inaccessible because of the storyline, and will have to be re-activated later.

Type B Save Points are in some cases only temporary and will therefore sometimes disappear as the player progresses in the storyline. Unlike the Type A Save Points, these may or may not not serve as links to the Gummi Ship (e.g. In Kingdom Hearts, the Save Points in Wonderland: Queen's Castle and Rabbit Hole are both Type B, but both of them are main Save Points which transport the player to the Gummi Ship). They do have all the other functions of a Save Point though.

Unlike all other playable characters, Sora's Heartless in Kingdom Hearts and King Mickey in Kingdom Hearts II are unable to use Save Points.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, save points are accessed through a card known as "Moment's Reprieve". They can be used in any room except for story rooms and boss rooms. Save points are also found on the entrance to every floor of Castle Oblivion, as well as the last room after a boss fight, Conqueror's Respite.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, save points do not appear. Instead, players can press the start button to open the main menu, where they can then go to "Save Game". This can only be done outside of missions in the Grey Room, or in Twilight Town before the battle with Xion on Day 357.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit]

Save Points A and B as they appear in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.

Both types of Save Point appear in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, although their appearance differs from earlier depictions. The Save Point A, which only appears in the Land of Departure, consists of four orbs of light orbiting above the Save Point, while Save Point Bs only have two orbs of light.

According to Ventus, the function of the save points is to record what has happened to their user. They also allow the user to access their Command Boards.

Kingdom Hearts coded[edit]

Within Kingdom Hearts coded, Save Points will always stay in their place without disappearing. Save Points lead to the choice of going to World Selection where you can go to other Worlds and replay the episode or do a Free Quest. You can also choose to go back to the Main Menu or go to the Camp Menu.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]

A save point as it appears in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, there is only one kind of save point which has two light orbs orbiting the save point; however, they cross each other and go in diagonal lines up and down the save point, rather than circular above the save point. The save point also gives the user the option to Drop to the next character.

Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- and Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Type A and Type B Save Points as they appear in Kingdom Hearts III.

In Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, save points appear as two wisps of light orbiting in a circular motion above the point. These save points allow the user to teleport to other save points. These reappear in Kingdom Hearts III as Type A save points, and serve the same function of teleporting Sora to other save points in the world, as well as allowing him access to the World Map, the Bistro, view tutorials, or return to the title screen.

Type B save points only appear a few times during Kingdom Hearts III, most notably in the 100 Acre Wood and the Land of Departure. They also temporarily appear in Olympus during the initial visit and during the battles against the Real Organization XIII (only during the base game; during the ReMind scenario, Type A save points appear, though with the functionality of a Type B one.) These save points look similar to save points in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, but they orbit in a circular pattern instead of a diagonal one. These only allow Sora to save, view tutorials, or return to the title screen.

World Map[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts III the World Map functions as a Save Point by pressing Start.

Faces[edit]

Introduced in Kingdom Hearts II, an image of a character's face would appear on the save file. The face that appears can vary depending on the player's progression through the story or the story mode being played.

  • Roxas's face appears during the Six Days, and can appear after Ansem the Wise's disappearance at The World That Never Was.
