Pumbaa is a warthog living in the Pride Lands who only appears in Kingdom Hearts II. He grew up in the Oasis with Timon and Simba, and together lived a carefree life until Nala found Simba and tried to convince him to go back to the Pride Lands with her. With the help of Sora, Donald, and Goofy, he and Timon pulled their courage together to help fight Scar's hyena army.
Pumbaa and Timon often say their motto "Hakuna Matata", which means "no worries" in Swahili.
Story
Kingdom Hearts II
Pumbaa is not seen until much later in the first visit, and has very few lines throughout. The only things worth noting are his almost-being-eaten by Nala, and his capture by the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed which leads to a boss fight against the three hyenas.
While Sora and his friends were at the Oasis, he and Timon told them about Hakuna Matata. After Simba and Nala have an argument about going back to Pride Rock to take down Scar, the five of them enter the area chanting Hakuna Matata.
At the end of the final cutscene, he is shown to be quite nervous due to Timon's comment: "What if he [Simba] forgets to tell the predators who we are?" with Pumbaa shortly responding apprehensively, "Yeah, and I'M NOT GOING TO BE SOMEONE'S PORK DIIIIINNNNEEERR!" finishing in a panic and running off in a dash.
Pumbaa is scarcely seen in the second visit, and mostly only plays a role of hinting where you should go next. However, in the end, Pumbaa adds onto Timon's "Live for today" words by saying: "And put your past behind you!", moving in a carefree, joyous trot. He also shows courage by protecting Nala from Scar's Ghost up on Pride Rock, despite being frightened by the apparition. Template:Section-stub
Personality
As his name means in Swahili- thoughtless, careless, stupid, absentminded- Pumbaa has established such a lax and carefree life, much due to the philosophy of "Hakuna Matata," that he can be perceived as ignorant or passive. This is not the case, however, as most of his ideas are quite genius and/or helpful. As for passivity, Pumbaa will only excuse actions until they affect his friends. When that happens, he will charge to protect and help them. This is seen during the end of the first visit, when Pumbaa bravely fights, and pummels the hyenas in a fit of rage. It is also important to note that Pumbaa disapproves of anyone call him a "pig." Doing so will incite a surge of anger, and rage.
Appearance
Pumbaa is a warthog with light tan fur and dark red cloven hooves. His belly is grey and his eyes are brown. True to his species, Pumbaa sports two large, ivory tusks jutting out of either side of his mouth. The tips of these tusks curve upwards sharply. Pumbaa has a large, flat snout which is pink at the front. His ears are set just behind each of his eyes. He has a very large mouth and a pink tongue. Finally, Pumbaa sports a tuft of shaggy brown hair on the tip of his tail and on the top of his head, the latter creating a mohawk-like mane.
Origin
- "They call me Mr. Pig!"
Pumbaa originates from the Disney 1994 film The Lion King. After running away from the Pride Lands, a young Simba collapses from heat exhaustion in the desert, where his unconscious body was found by Pumbaa and Timon. Pumbaa suggests that they take the young cub under their wing, but Timon refuses the idea, claiming that Simba is a predator and might eat them. Once Pumbaa states that Simba will make a good bodyguard, Timon agrees to take Simba in. After Simba awakened and introductions were made, Pumbaa and Timon spent the next few years teaching Simba their lifestyle in the jungle and their "Hakuna Matata" philosophy. During bug hunting one day, Pumbaa encounters Simba's childhood friend, Nala, who begins chasing him for food. Pumbaa scurries to Timon and Simba, where the latter immediately engages in a brief scuffle to save Pumbaa until Simba recognizes the lioness as his friend. After introductions were made, Pumbaa and Timon learn that Simba is the rightful heir to the Pride Lands, which was being ruled by Simba's villainous uncle, Scar.
Later, Pumbaa and Timon spies on Simba and Nala's romantic evening, despairing about the fact that they will lose their friend to her. The next morning, Nala wakes up Pumbaa and Timon and asks about Simba's whereabouts. Rafiki, a mandrill friend of Simba and his father Mufasa, appears and tells the trio that Simba was returned to the Pride Lands to challenge Scar for the throne. Joining Nala, Pumbaa and Timon follows her to the Pride Lands and was then forced to do a hula dance to distract Scar's hyena followers in order to to let Simba and Nala to sneak into the Pride Lands unnoticed. During the battle against the hyenas, Pumbaa rescues Timon and Zazu (they were trapped inside a cage) from Banzai, one of Scar's hyenas, after Banzai enrages Pumbaa by calling his "pig". After Scar's defeat, Pumbaa and Timon decide to stay and live at Pride Rock with Simba and Nala.
Pumbaa is the African word for "boar".
