Fire (ファイア Faia?) is a recurring element that appear in the Kingdom Hearts series. It embodies the power of flame, and is generally opposed to Blizzard. The Fire element is usually associated with the Blazing material and the Ignite status effect.

Attacks and abilities

Throughout the Kingdom Hearts series, party members and enemies alike use attacks and abilities that inflict Fire damage. Most prominently is the series of Fire magic, which has appeared in every game as an offensive spell available to playable characters and some party members. Party members also can occasionally use other Fire-element abilities, either fully original moves or adaptations of Fire magic. In a number of games, other Fire-element attacks are also available to the player, such as Fire Raid, Mega Flare, and Firaga Burst. Some summons also use Fire-element attacks, particularly Mushu and Genie.

Leon and Axel use Fire-type attacks as well, both as allies and as bosses.

Fire Resistance

Fire Resistance is a recurring stat in the Kingdom Hearts series. Increasing it through various means will reduce the amount of damage taken from Fire attacks. In most games in the series, Fire Resistance can be raised by equipping accessories or, in Kingdom Hearts II, armor. In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, some enemy cards have resistance or weakness to Fire as a secondary effect. Fire Resistance is raised in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep by equipping the Fire Screen ability, and in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded by equipping Fire Resistance Stat Chips in the Stat Matrix (see above).

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Fire Resistance only protects against the ignite status, not against Fire damage.

Themes

Several recurring elements in the Kingdom Hearts series incorporate Fire into their design or conceptualization.

The Ignite status effect is closely associated with Fire, especially in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, in which Fire-themed equipment, abilities and accessories allow the player to inflict enemies with or protect the player from receiving an Ignite status.

The Blazing synthesis materials are said to contain the essence of fire.

Some Engine Gummi Blocks in Kingdom Hearts and Projectile Gummi Blocks in Kingdom Hearts II are named after Fire magic.

Certain weapons and accessories are associated with Fire. The One-Winged Angel incorporates a flaming meteor in its design, and it emits flames when swung in battle. The Hidden Dragon is modeled after a dragon breathing flames. The Bond of Flame is modeled after Axel's signature chakrams, the Eternal Flames, while the Frolic Flame is modeled after the frisbees used by Axel's original persona, Lea, and includes a Bomb in its design.

Many of Axel's chakrams are given names associated with fire or heat.

Goofy's Seven Elements, which represents the seven types of magic appearing in Kingdom Hearts, includes a circular portion adorned with an orange flame, representing Fire.

The accessories and armor that protect specifically against Fire damage and Igniting are named after the Fire series of magic, the Fire-element summon Ifrit, or other fire-related terms.

Origin

Fire is a recurring element in the Final Fantasy series. It is one of the earliest elements introduced, and forms a trifecta with the elements of Ice and Lightning. It is the opposing element of Ice and occasionally Water.
