Roundtable Thoughts 09-05-14

This is going to be a rant about the proposal of another staff election. Perhaps this seems unfair of me since I am, well, an inactive staff member. However, just hear me out. I want to stress that I do not mean to step on any toes or want to hurt anyone's feelings. This is at least the third/fourth mention of holding a staff election this summer. As I've mentioned on previous staff election forums, what has happened to the Wiki that more staff is needed? Granted, I do believe some users have been here long enough and/or incredibly helpful that a proper due is deserved. However, a staff election needs to be for the right reasons. The main point on that side is the Wiki's current projects. Just to make sure I understand, I'm seeing three active admins (Neumannz is definitely active; Ninja and Shard check in quite often as well) and one active moderator (Chaser)- LevL was active some during this summer, but I haven't seen him recently. Images-deletion, moving, etc. have been moving along smoothly. Shard has been uploading like crazy and can always been contacted to delete stuff- as can Neumannz and the rest of us. I'm a bit out of date on actual edits for the other projects, but Neumannz seems to be on the ready for handling such problems. In short, I think we've stayed on top of these projects relatively well. Don't mistaken me, though. I'm not saying we absolutely shouldn't/can't have an election. I just want to make sure we understand why we want/will or will not have one. However, this is a community decision...so yeah. Community decides! Anyways, should an election happen...entrant part two I have a couple users in mind for both moderator and admin positions. In the past, the community-non-staff and staff users- have created a forum with a list of users they thought would make good candidates. Each user could "vote" or show that they agree with the proposed person(s) by adding their signature under the candidate's name. The current staff would then look at that list of proposed users and determine who the actual staff were. In short: community comes up with a list of users they think should/would be good for staff, current staff ultimately pick who is what. This way the staff aren't in charge of everything. (Forums this method was used..."Petition for more ops" or something titled similarly...The forums were I became an op on #wikia-kingdomhearts (2009 or 2010, I think?) and when I became a moderator (2010 or 2011)). Should an election happen, I would like to be contacted/kept in the loop- just to comment on the potential candidates. Email is around the Wiki and I am on the Facebook group. Roundtable Thoughts 08-08-14

Apologies for not making the meeting...especially since it is the last one before university starts...Anyways, End of Year Event: Whatever you guys decide we should do, I'm game. This month will be August, meaning it is time for us to start thinking/planning. Affiliation w/ KH Insider: I'd have to check old Roundtable logs to be sure, but weren't we waiting for something to happen before we finalized this? If it was the main page/Traverse Town revamps, then we're good to go. Staff Policy: What exactly are you wanting to go over? Is there a portion you don't agree with? Does the page need to be re-written? On demotions/officially retiring people...Kryten made an edit here the other day, even if it was on the Twilight Town forums... "Inactivity will not be tolerated if it is not excused. Being inactive and doing a single edit a day that is simply a grammar correction will not suffice." I know that requirement is against him, but still. I honestly believe that Kryten checks in here rather often but just doesn't have the time to actually edit. And, truth be told, if something ever happened and we needed him for something serious/important-well, actually anything- him retaining his staff "powers" would be so much handier/easier than having Neumannz/Maggosh return them whenever they later logged on. Still, the staff policy has a couple of things stacked against him, especially with his own declaration of inactivity. I also do not want to seem like this is favoritism or that "Kryten is above the law"...So, you guys decide. I've said my two cents. Xelias0 talkbubble coding

His Xelias0 talk template is marked for deletion due to being a duplicate of Template:Xelias. The latter template uses coding that isn't advanced markup. Since the other talkbubbles are different colors, advanced markup cannot be used on Xelias. Ergo, I've moved the coding for the Xelias0 talk template to here. Should he, or anyone ever need it, just copy/paste.
