There are two 3D shooting segments available in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, the first segment in Wonderland and the second in Hollow Bastion II. While in a 3D shooting stage, gameplay is changed significantly because of energy spikes in Keyholes.

Most abilities are disabled except for a few. By pressing left and right on the D-Pad, Data-Sora can move left and right. Pressing dsb or up on the D-Pad allows Data-Sora to jump up. While falling down, pressing up on the D-Pad slows Data-Sora's descent however pressing down on the D-Pad makes Data-Sora fall more quickly. Pressing dsa or R allows Data-Sora to fire projectiles at enemies from the Keyblade while holding dsa or R causes Data-Sora to lock on to a maximum of five enemies, which scores more points. Also, Data-Sora can still block by pressing dsy.

Bug Blox are in Data-Sora's path and cause damage upon contact. Pits are also in Data-Sora's path; falling into a pit deals damage before Sora immediately re-spawns. Enemies appear in waves to attack Data-Sora but can be defeating through firing or the use of overlay commands, which replace deck commands and are obtained by collecting diamond-shaped power-ups. 3D shooting is a mini-game found in Wonderland and Hollow Bastion II, that appears in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

Story

After Alice's memory is returned, Data-Sora manages to find and enter Wonderland's's Keyhole, seeking to destroy the source of the world's bugs. An energy spike limits Data-Sora's abilities, forcing the game into a 3D shooter. Data-Sora eventually manages to destroy the Trickmaster, the cause of the bugs and energy spike.

During Hollow Bastion II, Data-Sora is in a 3D shooter while going through the Data Tunnel to Sora's Heartless.

Gameplay

In 3D shooting segments, the camera is fixed behind a constantly advancing Data-Sora. Occasionally, the camera may tilt to the side or completely upside down. The segments are split up into stages and the map shows how far away the next stage is.

Most of Data-Sora's abilities are disabled although he can still move left and right, jump and block. Additonally, tapping A or R shoots projectiles from the Keyblade. If you hold the attack button, Data-Sora can lock on to a maximum of five targets, which deals more damage and scores more points. Deck commands are replaced by Overlay commands, which are obtained by picking up the diamond-shaped power-ups peppered throughout each stage.

Bug Blox obstruct Data-Sora's path and enemies attack in waves, halting Data-Sora's progress. If he falls into a pit, damage is dealt and then he respawns after a few seconds.
