Strategy

Kingdom Hearts III

Davy Jones is the final boss of The Caribbean. The pirate captain will frequently teleport around the ship, making it hard to keep track of him. Jones only has a few attacks at his disposal. He'll slash at Sora with his claw and sword, teleport behind him and perform a roundhouse kick, perform a powerful overhead slash with his sword as a counterattack (telegraphed by him glowing blue), or summon a tentacle to grab Sora. All of Jones attacks can be easily avoided or guarded against. The Double Arrowguns or Hunny Spout formchanges can be extremely useful against Jones thanks to their homing capabilities. Likewise, formchanges such as the Agile Claws, Blizzard Blades, or Twin Yo-Yos are useful as their quick attacks can keep the pressure on Jones while preventing him from attacking. Blizzard Blades is especially ideal, as it only deals Blizzard damage whereas Jones only blocks Physical attacks.

After being reduced to 66% HP, Jones will teleport to the crow's nest and summon six large Kraken tentacles to attack the party. Once three tentacles are defeated, they will retreat and Jones will be forced back down to the ship. Consider using Thunder magic to clear the tentacles, which they are weak to. After clearing out the tentacles, the fight will resume as normal, but after taking more damage, Jones will summon the tentacles once more. Only this time, he will stay and fight the party. So long as Sora is mindful of his attacks and remembers to heal when necessary, Jones will fall with ease.

Davy Jones can be knocked into an AI loop to make the fight much easier. If his Revenge Value is reached while airborne, he will retaliate with a slash of the sword. If blocked, this attack can be punished, and he can be knocked into a pattern of retaliating and being punished without being able to do much else. However, if he does land, he can break out of it, so be sure to use moves like Rising Spiral and keep a careful eye on when he will perform the slash.
