Jones, while not a difficult boss, can be tricky to fight. The pirate captain will frequently teleport around the ship, making it hard to keep track of him. Jones only has a few attacks at his disposal. He'll punch and slash at Sora with his claws, teleport behind him and perform a roundhouse kick, perform a powerful overhead slash as a counterattack (telegraphed by him glowing blue), or summon a tentacle to grab Sora. All of Jones attacks can be easily avoided or guarded against. The Double Arrowguns or Hunny Spout formchanges can be extremely useful against Jones thanks to their homing capabilities. Likewise, formchanges such as the Agile Claws, Blizzard Blades, or Twin Yo-Yos are useful as their quick attacks can keep the pressure on Jones while preventing him from attacking.

After inflicting enough damage, Jones will teleport to the crow's nest and summon large Kraken tentacles to attack the party. The tentacles must all be cleared to force Jones back down to the ship, which is an easy task as they do not have much HP. After clearing out the tentacles, the fight will resume as normal, but after taking more damage, Jones will summon the tentacles once more. Only this time, he will stay and fight the party. So long as Sora remembers to heal when necessary, Jones will fall with ease.
