The Mad Treant (マッドトレント Maddo Torento ) is a tree-like Unversed which appears in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. It serves as a boss for Ventus while he explores the Dwarf Woodlands.
Story
After escorting Snow White through the woods, Ventus learns that Terra has visited this world. He then heads back to the woods and encounters this large Unversed, and defeats it in battle.
Worlds Fought
Design
The Made Treant resembles a large, brown tree. Its trunk splits into three large branches, which, in turn, fork into three more branches, giving it nine branches covered with green leaves. Purple fruit resembling whole apples and blue fruit resembling apple cores hang from its branches. It has four thick roots that it typically keeps out of the ground to use as legs, though it can send them back into the ground. There are three red thorns on each of these roots. The Mad Treant's mouth is a jagged, black opening in the trunk, and it has a vertical split in its trunk between its eyes. Its red eyes are set in a sorrowful expression and the Unversed insignia is emblazoned on it just under its mouth.
The Treant is a common enemy found in many games of the Final Fantasy series, based on the enemy of the same name in the "Dungeons & Dragons" series of games, which is in turn based upon the Ents of J.R.R. Tolkein's Middle-Earth works. "Mad" may reference the brief moments when it surges and goes berserk with darkness.
Strategy
The Mad Treant is Ventus's first boss, and it isn't a hard opponent. For the most part, it lumbers around the arena sometimes throwing fruit bombs when it spins. It also may jump and pound the ground, or burrow its roots into the ground to attack Ventus from below. It can also kick Ventus if he is close, or perform a spin attack. If the boss is attacked enough times the boss will fall to the ground, momentarily stunned. But be careful when it recovers as it will shine with dark energy, and stomp around, hurting Ventus if he is too close. But overall, it is an easy boss. Merely dodge its attacks , heal when necessary and show the Unversed no mercy. Command Styles, Shotlocks, and D-Links make the fight easier
