The Leviathan has a black handle with an elegant, curved, light blue guard. The two halves of the guard do not connect to the top of the handle, similar to the [[Rainfell]]. The shaft is blue and it has slightly concave edges. The head and teeth are comprised of a large, circular hook that nearly forms a complete circle. This hook is divided into alternating, black and blue segments, and its outer edge is lined by spikes. The [[Keychain]] token resembles a completely blue version of the head of the blade. Overall, the shape vaguely resembles the "Final Fantasy" summon.

[[Abyssal Tide]]'s air combo is highly similar and slightly inferior at doing this.

The Leviathan is a Keychain for Roxas's and Xion's Keyblades that appears in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It can be upgraded to the Leviathan+.

Development[edit]

Pre-release screenshot of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days showing the Keyblade's Wind Maker form.

Originally, during development of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, the Keyblade was to take on an air combat-oriented form known as the "Wind Maker" (ウィンドメイカー Windo Meikā?) when the Wing Gear (ウィングギア Wingu Gia?) was equipped. While the Wing Gear was ultimately cut, the Keyblade's design was recycled for the Leviathan. Interestingly, Roxas would have wielded the Wind Maker with the other side of the hook acting as the teeth, akin to how Mickey wields the Star Seeker in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.

Design[edit]

The Leviathan has a black handle with an elegant, curved, light blue guard. The two halves of the guard do not connect to the top of the handle, similar to the Rainfell. The shaft is blue and it has slightly concave edges. The head and teeth are comprised of a large, circular hook that nearly forms a complete circle. This hook is divided into alternating, black and blue segments, and its outer edge is lined by spikes. The Keychain token resembles a completely blue version of the head of the blade. Overall, the shape vaguely resembles the "Final Fantasy" summon.

The name and the shape are a reference to the eponymous water-elemental Summon in the Final Fantasy series. Similarly, Axel's Nimble Gear Chakram, Ifrit, is also named after a Final Fantasy Summon.

Gameplay[edit]

The basic ground combo consists of a dashing backflip slash that is then followed by a forward thrust, another quick backflip slash (in place), and finishing with a horizontal slash. Pressing Y after the ground combo's third strike has Roxas/Xion perform a spinning frontflip attack that ends with a downward slash. The slash spikes the enemy downward, but since the attack is barely above the ground, the effect is minimized. If the Combo-Block ability is equipped, one must have the directional pad pressed in any direction, as Y also executes Block.

The basic air combo begins with a Horizontal Slash of two side-to-side slashes, a second pair of Horizontal Slashes, a spinning frontflip attack (identical to the ground one), another Horizontal Slash pair, and finally another spinning frontflip attack. Notably, any of the five moves in the combo can also serve as a finisher. The flips, if they serve as the final blow, will add an extra blow spiking the enemy downward, while the horizontal slashes will add a third slash with knockback if the combo isn't continued.

This air combo propels the user a considerable amount of distance forwards, allowing them to reach some locations (and chests) at the beginning of the game otherwise unreachable without high leveled Air Slides or High Jumps. A prime example is in the central area of Agrabah, where the air combo can be used to travel amongst the high ledges. Abyssal Tide's air combo is highly similar and slightly inferior at doing this.
