Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep |
Normally, Mandrakes hide in the ground and attack from afar with their Leaf Cutters—and that's when they're still playing nice. If you get too close, they'll leap out of the ground and try to poison you, or else confuse you with the pollen they spew into the air as they charge. |

The Mandrake is an Unversed that appears in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
Design
The Mandrake is a small Unversed with dark green skin, wide hips, and short legs. It has green and light green highlights on its body, and it lacks arms. The Mandrake has a spherical, white head that is partially surrounded by a dark green "collar," and its eyes are red and set in a sorrowful expression. A red marking between the Mandrake's eyes resembles a mouth. The Mandrake's most prominent feature is the three white, leaflike blades atop its head. These blades end in pale green, arrowhead-like tips.
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, the Mandrake receives a palette swap that gives it an orange body with yellow highlights. The leaflike blades on its head are changed to a light shade of yellow-green.
The Mandrake's name is derived from that of a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series, as well as the mythical Mandragora.
Battle
Attacks
- Leaf Cutter (リーフカッター Rīfu Kattā ): The Mandrake launches sharp leaves at the opponent from atop its head.
- Powder of Poison (毒の粉 Doku no Kona ): The Mandrake hovers in midair, spewing poisonous pollen.
- Panic Attack (パニックアタック Panikku Atakku ): The Mandrake leaps at the opponent. This attack causes confusion if it makes contact.
Strategy
From a distance, Mandrakes launch sharp leaves at their opponents which can be deflected back at them to deal damage or dodged by jumping. When approached, these Unversed leap out of the ground and hover in midair, spewing poisonous pollen. It is best to wait for this attack to conclude before countering. Otherwise, one risks being poisoned. One can be confused if a Mandrake's Panic Attack makes contact, but if it is successfully blocked, the Unversed will be left open to damage from Counter Hammer, Counter Rush, or Counter Blast.
