_NOTOC_ The Kingdom Hearts III Demo is an event-exclusive playable demonstration of the upcoming title Kingdom Hearts III. It premiered at Electronic Entertainment Expo for [Playstation 4] and [Xbox One] on June 12, 2018 and ran until June 14th, 2018. It also was available at Southeast PlayStation Experience 2018 exclusively for Playstation 4. Photography and recording was prohibited at these events, and the demo lasted for 30 minutes at E3, and 15 minutes[1] at PSX
Gameplay
The demo is divided into 3 rooms: Andy's Room and Galaxy Toys from Toy Box, and a section of Olympus. During both segments, the player haa access to Fira, Blizzara, Cura. Donald and Goofy are always in your party.
Toy Box
During the Toy Box segment, the demo starts in Andy's Room, with a cutscene and then a scripted Heartless battle. The player had additional access to Thundara, a potion, and an ether. Buzz Lightyear and Woody Pride joined your party after the second cutscene. After defeating the unnamed Heartless, another couple of cutscenes play, were Buzz Lightyear and Woody Pride join your party, and then the player is fully able to access Andy's room, and the area outside of the house. This featured Heartless, as well as the ability to run up the walls using Autorunning. After the player ran far enough to the road, there was a room transition to Galaxy Toys. This featured three cutscenes, and then a battle in a gigas, with other gigas heartless. Upon defeat of the last heartless, the player is transitioned to the Olympus segment.
Olympus
The player was immediately put into a scripted Rock Titan boss fight during the Olympus segment. The player had additional access to Aerora and an elixir. Sora was in second form on default.
Mechanics
Attacks
- Sora's ground combo contained 3 normal attacks, plus a finisher. His air combo functioned similarly.
- Combination moves Goofy Shot, Rocket Ruckus, and Flare Force.
- Ariel and Wonderballoon (Meow Wow) were available as links.
- During Second Form, the ground finisher is explosion, followed by ripple drive. Aerial finisher was magnet spiral.
Magic
- Fira shoots a ball of flame into an enemy, and then explodes upon impact, damaging surrounding enemies, functioning similar to firaga in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-.
- Blizzara shoots a ball of ice into an enemy, and then explodes upon impact, damaging and freezing surrounding enemies, functioning similar to blizzaga to in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-.
- Cura restores the party's health when used, but at the cost of all of the user's remaining MP, functioning similar to cure spells in Kingdom Hearts II.
- Thundara[2] creates an expanding ring around a target. As the ring expands, bolts of thunder rain down, inflicting damage to anything caught in the radius, functioning similar to thundaga to in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-.
- Aerora[3] surrounds the player briefly, then shoots up and dispels. Any enemies caught in aerora's area of effect are damaged and air-tossed.
If Magic was used during Agile Claw, the magic turned into a Sora-only variation.
Keyblades
- Smile Gear, Infinty Blade, and Ever After were the keyblades available when in normal form. Kingdom Key became available in 2nd form only.
- Keyblades have the ability to transform after attacking then activating a situation command.
- Smile Gear turned into Agile Claw, and then Twin Yo-yos.
- Infinity Badge turned into Hyper Hammer and then Drill Punch.
- Ever After could turn into Mirage Staff only.
- Kingdom Key was a disappointment and did nothing.
- Shotlocks depended on which keyblade was equipped, and changed names after
- Smile Gear had Snake Bite, and Max was Warp Trick
- Infinity Badge had Ghost Horde, and Max was Drill Drive
- Ever After had Drain Shock, and Max was Spectral Ray
- Kingdom Key had Snake Bite, and Max was Ragnarok
Abilties
Functionality
- Normal controls were:
- R1 was lock-on
- Circle was jump, twice for doubleflight. While staggered it was used to activate aerial recovery.
- X was attack.
- Triangle activated situation commands
- L2 cycled though situation commands.
- L1 opened the shortcut menu
- Square allowed movement like Dodge Roll and Air Slide. While standing still, it was used for guard.
- Pushing R1 and L1 together activated shotlock mode.
- Shotlocks had the as the transforming attack, and as Flowchain.
- Menu was Attack/Magic/Items/Link (Summon)
- Damage output on explosion is significantly less than Kingdom Hearts II.
- Cutscenes are skippable.
