What's worse than a Heartless? Try three of them, fused into one weird body. Stomping feet and gnashing teeth, an active volcano spewing fire, plus a thundercloud tail raining lightning bolts left and right added up to one bad day in San Fransokyo. |

Catastrochorus is an Emblem Heartless boss in Kingdom Hearts III. It is the second boss of San Fransokyo. It is also fought in Battlegate 13 in the Keyblade Graveyard.
Story[edit]
Kingdom Hearts III[edit]
While Sora, Donald, and Goofy help the newly upgraded Big Hero 6 take out Heartless attacking San Fansokyo, a Catastrochorus jumps into the middle of the street. As the lesser Heartless are still attacking the city, Sora, Donald, Goofy and Baymax destroy the Catastrochorus, while Big Hero 6 takes care of the other Heartless.
Design[edit]
The Catastrochorus is a large Heartless resembling a tyrannosaurus rex. It is largely colored brown with a grey and black exterior across its head and back, with yellow zig-zagged stripes separating the two. It has a large dino-like head with a sharp pointed horn, a jagged mouth with a lava covered interior, curved yellow eyes on each side of its head, and two lava filled outlets as its 'ears'. More outlets extrude out from its back and hips, with the largest in the middle of its back resembling a volcano. It has two proportionally small arms and two giant feet, each containing grey blocky claws. It has a blue jar-like tail, upon which is its Heartless emblem. Hiding inside the tail is a black cartoonish figure. While hiding, only the top of its head and its two long antennas are visible from the tail. When it comes out of hiding, the head becomes covered by a large thundercloud afro.
Its journal entry describes it as three Heartless "fused into one weird body" - the T-rex, volcano on the back, and thundercloud "wizard" in the tail. The three typically take turns controlling the body but can also be active at the same time. When they are not active, the t-rex will slump over, the volcano head shrinks into the back, and the wizard hides in the tail and loses its afro.
Strategy[edit]
The Catastrochorus has four modes of fighting, with different attacks being available in each mode. It starts in Normal Mode with the head being targetable. In Normal Mode, it uses Rush Bite or Rush Horn Attack 1-3 times, runs away from the area, then stops for about 8 seconds before repeating the cycle (sometimes, it proceeds to the next attack without stopping). When the Catastrochorus is reduced to 80% HP, it will glow red and enter Armor Mode, with every body part being targetable. In Armor Mode, it uses Fire Breath and Thunderbolt at the same time, uses Rampage, Eruption, and Tail Slam at the same time 1-2 times, uses Roar, and then repeats the cycle. It will return to Normal Mode after the armor is broken; when in Normal Mode with under 80% HP, it is very likely to use Rush Bite or Rush Horn Attack all 3 times before running.
When the Catastrochorus is reduced to 60% HP (50% in the Battlegate), it will enter Volcano Attack Mode, with only the back's volcano being targetable. In this mode, it will stand still and occasionally use Eruption or Magma Attack. From this point on, Free Running can be used to scale the Catastrochorus's legs and head, indicated by shiny points. When it is reduced to 40% HP (25% in the Battlegate), it will enter Tail Attack Mode, with only the tail being targetable. In this mode, it will stand still and occasionally use Thunderbolt or Tail Flourish.
Additionally, in both Armor Mode and Volcano Attack Mode, standing on the Catastrochorus's back will provoke the Radiation attack.
By far the easiest method to defeat the Catastrochorus is through the use of the Sea Spectacle Link summon, which will deal massive damage to the Heartless due to both its weakness to Water damage and its large size causing nearly all the projectiles from the Link to hit the target. Just one effective usage of the Link will be enough to reduce the Heartless's HP to 1 before it can begin its second phase in San Fransokyo, though it cannot be defeated until the second phase has begun.
However, if Sea Spectacle is not available due to The Caribbean not being visited yet or the usage of the No Links PRO Code, then it is best to play defensively and wait for the Catastrochorus to begin one of its attacks before counterattacking. When casting magic, attempt to use Water magic on its Volcano for extra damage. Be careful when using physical combos against the Volcano however, as the Catastrochorus has a couple attacks to use to defend it. When it enters Armor Mode, consider using a Shotlock to safely deplete its armor from a distance.
During the boss battle in San Fransokyo, the Catastrochorus will jump to one of the buildings and switch to its tail and lightning attacks. Heartless will intercept Sora on the way to the Catastrochorus, so be prepared to dodge projectiles while climbing the buildings, and watch for stray Heartless while attacking the Catastrochorus. Utilize Air Slide to dodge its lightning attacks while getting hits in, as this portion of the fight is most effectively fought in the air.

Enters Volcano Attack Mode when reduced to 60% HP (50% in the Battlegate) with only the back's volcano being targettable. Enters Tail Attack Mode when reduced to 40% HP (25% in the Battlegate) with only the tail being targettable (moves to one of the tower rooftops in San Fransokyo). Free Running can be used on the shiny spots during the two latter modes. During the San Fransokyo fight, the Deadly Blow EZ Code can only deplete its HP to 1 outside of the Tail Attack Mode. If a hit lands early in the fight, the Catastrochorus will change modes after a certain amount of time. | ||||||
