Sonic Blade (ソニックレイヴ Sonikku Reivu?, lit. "Sonic Rave"), translated as "Sonic Rave" in Kingdom Hearts II, is a technique introduced in Kingdom Hearts. It allows the user to execute a number of successive thrusting attacks. After the first attack, each successive attack is activated through a prompt command.

Mechanics

In Kingdom Hearts, selecting Sonic (ソニック Sonikku?) from the last command box activates the first attack, and if it connects, the command box will change to Rave (レイヴ Reivu?). Selecting Rave executes the next attack in the sequence. Rave appears five times, if all the attacks connect, and is then replaced with Blast (フィニッシュ Finisshu?, lit. "Finish"), which executes the powerful finishing thrust. In the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX release of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, the initial Sonic command, the Rave commands, and the Blast finisher are all implemented as Reaction Commands. Sonic Blade costs 3 AP to equip and 2 MP to use. Sora is invincible throughout the entire attack.

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Sonic Blade knocks the target into the air, preventing them from performing a Card Break.

In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Sonic Blade is an attack sleight that allows Sora to dash back and forth across the field, and can be steered slightly up or down as it is executed. The dashes are slower than in other games, allowing the player time to add up to six additional thrusts by pressing A at the end of each dash. In Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, the dashes automatically target an enemy and cover a greater distance, although they can miss if the target is airborne. Additional attacks are activated by pressing Triangle when prompted, but the timing for the press is stricter, and pressing Triangle at the wrong time cancels the sleight. The card combination for Sonic Blade is:

Three attack cards of differing types.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Sonic Rave is a limit that is exclusive to Genie. The limit begins with Sonic, in which Genie transforms into a giant hand that Sora uses to smack enemies several times. Afterwards, Rave transforms Genie into a rocket that propels itself into enemies as Sora rides on top of it.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Sonic Rave is also an action ability exclusive to Limit Form. It is a limit that is equipped by default and costs 60 MP to use. It is automatically assigned to Circle in the shortcuts menu. On activation, Sora performs the opening lunge attack, and up to five more attacks can be executed through the Rave Reaction Command. Afterwards, the Reaction Command is replaced with Finish to perform the final attack.

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Sonic Blade is an Ultimate attack command that takes up one slot in the Command Deck, has a maximum level of 5, has a normal reload time of 15 seconds, and fills the Command Gauge by 20%.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Sonic Blade is an attack command exclusive to Sora that uses two slots and has a reload time of 36 seconds. It grants +3 to Strength and +1 to Defense when attached to a Dream Eater recipe. Unlike in previous games, all the thrusts are automated with no need for button prompts, and Sora is no longer invincible during the whole sequence; Sonic Blade can also now be used in midair.
