Meow Wow Balloon (ワンダーバルーン Wandā Barūn , lit. "Wonder Balloon") is a Link Summon that appears in Kingdom Hearts III. It allows the user to summon Meow Wow and ride on its back to bounce on and rush down enemies.
MechanicsEdit
In Kingdom Hearts III, Meow Wow Balloon is the Link Summon attached to the Dream Heartbinder. It has a base duration of 30 seconds. When used, Sora summons Meow Wow and rides on top of it, where he can then control it and move or bounce around with Tornado Pounce. Each bounce causes Meow Wow to increase its giant size, with four bounces giving Meow Wow its maximum giant size. As Meow Wow's size increases, it gains extra power for its Tornado Pounce and Deflate Dash attacks. If Meow Wow collides with an object on the way up while using Tornado Pounce, it will revert back to its original size, lose momentum, and cancel the shockwave attack. Using Deflate Dash will also return Meow Wow to its original size.
Command | Input | Description |
Move (移動 Idō ) |
Moves Meow Wow at a speed slower than Sora's running speed.
Tornado Pounce (トルネードジャンプ Torunēdo Janpu , lit. "Tornado Jump") |
Meow Wow jumps as it inhales air and grows larger, attacking surrounding enemies with a whirlwind on its ascent and with a shock wave as it lands. With larger sizes come higher jump height, wider attack range, and more attack power.
Deflate Dash (バルーンラッシュ Barūn Rasshu , lit. "Balloon Rush") |
Meow Wow turns around, spouts air from its mouth, and rushes backward. At normal size, this attack ends quickly, but it lasts longer and gains more power at larger sizes.
Finish (フィニッシュ Finisshu ) |
Countless Dream Eaters scatter around the area and attack; its attack range is wider than it seems. |
StrategyEdit
Meow Wow Balloon is largely focused on being able to effectively deal with groups of enemies, as the shockwaves from Tornado Pounce have a wide range, especially at larger sizes. Meow Wow Balloon especially excels in the Kingdom of Corona, where many enemies are weak to the Aero damage that the link deals, and the confined spaces of much of the world ensure enemies have little space to avoid the wide shockwaves.
However there are some areas where Meow Wow Balloon performs poorly due to low ceilings that will deflate Meow Wow before it can reach its fourth bounce of Tornado Pounce. Meow Wow Balloon also is a poor choice against enemies that keep a high altitude, as Deflate Dash only causes Meow Wow to rush along the ground where higher enemies won't be reached.
In general, it is best to use Deflate Dash as soon as the fourth bounce has been used to avoid accidentally colliding with a high up object or ceiling, as well as to hit the most enemies and get the most damage possible.
