Continue or ending the projectEdit

There wasn't much input on the last roundtable so let's ask here instead. Project Merge died down, the last edit was made two months ago. While that's the case with other projects here too, time is really important on this one, because (who'd have guessed) the longer it takes the more both sites changes and the longer it will take to complete the project in return and so on.
I think the main problem is that our active userbase is too small to undertake such a big project, because comparing and evaluate the page requires (again) a lot of time, knowing the history of both articles is important too: I readded several paragraphs that were already removed here (sorry Neumannz).
So what should we do now?

  1. Filter the articles with a bot that weren't or were only slightly changed? I don't know if that's possible, but it could reduce the amount of work.
  2. Only browse through both pages and add missing paragraphs and information to save a lot of time?
  3. End the project and hope it works out somehow.

Maybe someone has better ideas but we should at least discuss about it. --ShardofTruth 00:05, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

TALK - "I am who I am, because of them."
I think a big part of the lack of activity can be told as follows:
  • KH3D was released in Japan, leading to loads of new info, in addition to new pages. The info continues to roll in as American translations for Dream Eaters are slowly released. Erry, Kryten, and Shard especially have been working on these.
  • There's been some issues with Wikia's general stubbornness, and DE and Sox, as well as many of the other editors who also work over there, have had to deal with that. Additionally, they've been working on the roleplay.
  • I'm not a huge edit powerhouse, but even I haven't been able to contribute my usual meager amount due to the Spring influx of homework, participation in my school's drama, and general busyness. My guess is the same is true for many other contributors.

I'd say we'd be best off trying to get the bot thing to work, and if that amounts to nothing than we should just hold out until summer. Once schedules free up, we'll have more time to allot to these things. It wouldn't be a horrible idea to go for the quicker route stated in your second point, either.

I have no idea how the bot would work, so my option of choice would be number 2. It would also help with the fact that many of the users working on the merge were simply porting over large portions of the Keyhole's articles regardless of whether the information was already there. If it's only done on a quick-and-dirty level, it has the risk of adding back what was already removed, but that may not be a big problem. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 04:17, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Wikia contentEdit

When, if ever, would it be appropriate to revert to including full articles on people like Hook or Phantom if wikia? Like what if KHwiki went down due to lack of funding? Could we then export the more up to date pages from here and import them to Wikia? +Yc 01:35, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Did you ask this question for the sole purpose of being able to link some pages from the Disney Wikia to their respective Kingdom Hearts Wikia pages? --ShardofTruth (talk) 03:01, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Some questionsEdit

I wanna help with the project, but there are some points that I don't know what to do:

  1. Some pages in the Keyhole have redirects to pages from here. Should I leave the redirects, or make pages there like the ones to which they are redirecting. For example, Cloud Strife. It redirects to Cloud in the Radiant Garden page, that redirects to KHWiki's Cloud Strife page.
  2. For the infoboxes, I should use the respective infoboxes from the Keyhole, right?

  1. So you like to change the Cloud link from here to the Keyhole, that is redirected to Radiant Garden, to Radiant Garden without the redirect. I think that's impossbile at the moment, because the links to the Keyhole are simply generated from the article's/template's name. You would have to write another parser function for this purpose.
  2. What infoboxes do you mean? I think the character infoxbox template is quite different now on both wikis so you would've to make sure what exactly can be transfered here.

Generally I think it's much too late to merge anything important now that the Keyhole uses mostly lists. ShardofTruth 21:28, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Got it. So, the Keyhole doesn't let you change to where the link will redirect mannually, like here? So, I will see which pages I can merge, okay? - MateusinhoEX - 13:07, 27 Feburary 2013 (UTC)
Hm, I think we're talking at cross purposes. The links from the KHWiki to The Keyhole can't be changed without altering the template. So if you want to link the KHWiki's Cloud page directly to the KHWiki's Radiant Garden page (where the Cloud page was merged in since there are no individual FF and Disney character pages on The Keyhole anymore), you would have to add another field in the template that generates the link to The Keyhole and can be changed individually.
If you want to change the links from The Keyhole to the KHWiki to avoid a re-direct, you have to edit the links over there directly (which is perfectly fine with the staff there I think).
If you still want to merge some pages you have to be careful, that some sections, that are still present on The Keyhole were removed here on purpose, this is the case for almost every weapon page for example. ShardofTruth 14:15, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

About Deck CommandsEdit

I'm currently merging the Command Deck page. I have one question: Command Deck and Deck Command are the same thing? Or the first is about the menu and the second about the Commands themselves? If yes, then I should make Command deck pages here, right? But one invidually for each game, I mean, one for BBS, one for Re:Coded and one for KH3D? - MateusinhoEX, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
