The Dandelions are a group of exceptional Keyblade wielders assembled by Ava under the instruction of the Master of Masters. The Dandelions exist to function as a separate faction of Keyblade wielders, regardless of the Unions they originate from, to be trained by Ava in order to escape to another realm rather than take part in the Keyblade War. Keyblade wielders chosen to be part of the Dandelions must have a strong resistance to Darkness, as their purpose is ensure that Light lives on after it expires during the events of the Keyblade War by rebuilding the world from the Light within their Hearts. As well, the Master of Masters also tasked Ava with finding five specific Keyblade wielders to induct into the Dandelions, who are destined to succeed the Foretellers as Union leaders in the new world; though only the one chosen by the Master of Masters would receive a copy of the Book of Prophecies

Ephemer was one of the five, questioning why the Unions fought over the Light and the mysteries of the Book of Prophecies. Ava approached Ephemer with an offer to join the Dandelions when he attempted to enter the Foreteller's Chamber alone, where she also asked that he lead the Dandelions in her stead as one of the new Union leaders. Agreeing, Ephemer was sent to another realm by Ava, where he would await further instruction.

Skuld was another of the five, and was offered a position among the Dandelions when she and Player, who had also been offered a place among the Dandelions, began investigating Ephemer's disappearance after he guided them to each other with a warning of the world's end. While Skuld accepted, Player declined Ava's offer - instead wanting time to think about it given his guilt toward all the other Keyblade wielders who would be left behind to battle in the Keyblade War. Though Player would eventually accept his fate and join the Dandelions after battling his own Nightmare Chirithy.

Following the events of the Keyblade War, Ephemer and Skuld reunited in the Keyblade Graveyard, just as Ava had told them to. Soon enough, Ventus would join them, alongside two other Dandelions, establishing them all as the five new Union leaders.
