Holy (ホーリー Hōrī?), sometimes dubbed as "Pearl" or "Faith", is an ability which appears in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. It usually consists of a burst of white light, causing damage to everything in range, or a sphere of light that homes in on the enemy. It also appears as a Reaction Command with Queen Minnie in Kingdom Hearts II.

Casting

Kingdom Hearts

Although it is not available for use, the heartless known as Angel Star is said to have been born of holy spells, and casts magic that appears to possess similar properties.

Kingdom Hearts:Chain of Memories

An ascending pillar of white light appears and gathers enemies, lifting them into the air and inflicting large amounts of damage.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories

Four pillars of light similar to that which appears when the Faith reaction command is activated with Queen Minnie are dropped from the sky in quick succession, inflicting massive amounts of damage. This incarnation, however, does not come with the wide range of the latter spell, and, if no enemy is targeted, will fall upon Sora's position and strike whatever is nearby. Precise timing is required, as the spell can be easily evaded by heartless enemies who slip into the shadows or bosses who transport themselves around the room. The strokes occur at a fixed rate regarldess of the presence of any enemies who might be hit by it.

Kingdom Hearts II

When accompanying Queen Minnie, Sora gains access to the reaction command Faith, which summons a pillar of rose-tinted white light from the sky that releases a flash of light upon reaching the ground to repel enemies and inflict damage. She is also able to summon slow-moving pearls of light.

King Mickey, when playable, has access to the Pearl spell, which releases several spheres of white light with homing properties.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Ventus has access to Holy, rendered into English as Faith, as a Deck Command. A circle of lasers identical to those used by Roxas appears and expands outwards, repelling enemies and inflicting massive damage as well as restoring health.

Origin

Holy is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series. In most games, Holy has the distinction of being the only White Magic spell to be used offensively. Its divine power is most effective against both dark-aligned and undead creatures.

Trivia

  • Holy is one of few recurring spells in the series not to use the -ra and -ga endings to indicate rank not to be associated with an element that is.
  • Holy is the only spell in the series to use more than one English rendering, taking both the literal Holy and the censored Pearl, though generally as separate spells.
  • Faith appears as a spell in Final Fantasy XII, in which it bolsters the target's magical power rather than inflicting damage. The Holy spell appearing in both Kingdom Hearts II in the company of Queen Minnie bears some resemblance to the holy spell appearing in this game, though its pillar is formed by coalescing light into a pillar rather than dropping it out of the sky.
  • The Holy spell cast by Ventus uses the same laser beams commanded by Roxas in the boss fight against him. During this battle, Roxas also has an ability that launches spheres of light that bears some resemblance to Pearl.
