The Darkling is a Dark being born from a Keyblade wielder that fell to darkness, but no signs of losing heart is shown. It's associated with heartless[1] but has never been officially classified as one of them. Their first appearance is Kingdom Hearts χ. Darklings retain the ability to speak and access the Lanes between, but unlike the players, they do not draw power from the Book of Prophecies' fragments during battle.
Story
Outside the clock tower in Daybreak Town, Player and Skuld are attacked by a group of Darklings. These beings demand the Keyblade wielders give them their captured Lux, but they flee after a battle when a Nightmare Chirithy appears before them. Quest 540: To the Clock Tower Pt. 2
Later, Nightmare Chirithy absorbs them after a battle.
