The Wayward Wind (フレッシュブリーズ Furesshu Burīzu?, lit. "Fresh Breeze") is a Keyblade that is wielded by Ventus in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Like most Keyblades in the series, it is a Keyblade of the Realm of Light. Ventus uses this Keychain in order to form his Keyblade Glider.

Design

Wayward Wind is a peculiar Keyblade, with the hilt and guard positioned off the shaft, rather than aligned with it. Due to its unique construction, Wayward Wind is designed to be wielded in reverse. The shaft, head and teeth are dark grey and have golden seams engraved into them, three just above the guard and one curving around the base. The shaft itself is rounded and becomes thicker around the guard. The teeth vaguely resembles a bird wing implying the connection to his name, as well as a resemblance to the teeth of Two Become One, and the hilt and guard resembles that of the Kingdom Key. The Keychain token is comprised of two silver feathers twisting around a gust of wind.

In the Birth by sleep video, the Wayward Wind is instead held teeth-forward, as the hilt and guard were located on the opposite side from the blade's teeth. Furthermore, the shaft and blade seem to be composed of a rusted, silvery metal.

The Keyblade's name and Keychain reference Ventus's name, which means "wind" in Latin.

Trivia

  • The design of this Keyblade is somewhat ambiguous: in Ventus's concept artwork, his D-Link icon, and in the "Birth by sleep" video, the teeth and hilt are on opposite sides, but in the game and on the boxart, both are on the same side. This is because of a design change late in development.
