== Avatar Parts Genres ==
From what I can tell, it appears that rather than matching specific parts to increase happiness, there's a genre associated with most avatar parts, with the exception of Bods, Lips, and Peepers. Just about everything else has a specific genre which the Ultimania assigns a letter value to. It appears that the boost is 1 point for each part equipped that is from the same genre, plus it also appears that you get 1 additional point no matter what. What isn't completely clear is where you get 1 point for each one part you match to your friend, or whether it's a cumulative effect (i.e. if all your parts are from 1 genre, do you get a boost even if the other avatar doesn't match at all?; If the other Avatar has 3 parts of a genre you have 1 of, is that 1 point for one pair of parts matched, 3 for having 3 parts match a genre of the other avatar, or 4 for total number of matching parts?). At any rate, there only appear to be 6 genres in total. --[[User:JeruTz|JeruTz]] ([[User talk:JeruTz|talk]]) 17:42, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Todo summary[edit]

When dealt with, delete, do not archive.

  • Confirm number of parts matched for each "Avatar comment".
  • Confirm whether manipulating your clock affects the -3/hr penalty.
  • Confirm whether n_l resets or maxes out.
  • p326: Note about getting letters from the same friend and ensemble. Should probably translate.
  • Translate p329 Card prizes - Commands and all go on their pages; make general list explanation here.
  • Translate p335 section based on Prize Blox - list on relevant command pages, not here.
  • Explain floor code specifications within the section; most of it will link to the actual system sector page.
  • Add short explanation of "Genre" and "Parts replaced" to Avatar Parts section.
  • Add column listing all parts used in each ensemble.
  • Add to Data-Riku's boss page that the bugged version is LV99 - source p326.

I'll work on the translations. Shard, can you please test the 3hr penalty and n_l questions (for n_l, you should be getting viruses every time once you have 200 letters total, which you have; if not, then estimate how often you get viruses, I assume about 50%). DTN, I need you to tell me exactly how far you've gotten with the Avatar comment thing. It should realistically take two hours to complete, so if you don't have that time, you need to tell one of us. This article WILL NOT MISS THE DEADLINE AGAIN."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 21:58, 26 April 2011 (EDT)

Avatar Parts last copyedit[edit]

Here

I'm going to go ahead and say that I didn't confirm the nihongo for each one with the Ultimania, but the ones I did were right (except Sora B at the beginning). Still, they can't be that far off, since they are all legible.

I relaxed the literalization of "の" to be treated as an adjectival form for some cases (basically, whenever the dub used it that way). I hope that's acceptable, since it removes a lot of mostly useless "lit" sections.

Wanpi/su: translate as "Sundress" (best english translation I could come up with based on knowledge of clothing terms), or allow give and take for whatever type of dress the dub thinks it's using? Or translate phonetically as One-piece in all cases?

Same thing with "Uwagi", though that has a much more acceptable translation as the generic "Top".

Facial Hair: Japanese really doesn't separate the various types, so it just feels pedantic to me to use "lit" when the only problem is that there isn't an exact Japanese word for that type of facial hair. I'd like to remove the lit tags for those listed below, where applicable (possibly not Eraqus).

Boushi: In some cases, Kyappu or Hatto is used for Cap and Hat, and "Bou" is usually translated as Cap. Thus, I'm fine with modifying the lit for the W Mushroom and Seifer, but also fine with leaving it how it is.

Piasu: Studs and Piercings and Earrings of that sort are just called "Piasu" in nihongo (there doesn't appear to be a dedicated word for "stud", and all variants I can find use piasu). However, we translate "Ability Piasu" as Ability Earring, not the dub's "Ability Stud". Can we let Stud slide here, and on the Ability Stud page?

Boa-dzuke: Based on image searches, I feel pretty confident that lined could be reasonable. However, there are no direct translations on the web, and the closest I could come to an accurate translation would be "Boad Boots".

Finally: the comments with Goofy D's Mouth and Luxord's Goatee. Does the Ultimania have the wrong order, according to the game, or do we?

My response is as follows:
  1. RE: の — All things considered, it makes sense to do it like that.
  2. RE: Wanpisu — I'm gonna point out that I hate this one. Its translation is basically "dress", but it gets there via "one-piece". (Argh.) Maybe we should just go with "dress" and leave it alone.
  3. RE: Uwagi — Yeah, I think that's fine.
  4. RE: Hige — I'm quite not so hot on letting this one go. I know I find it weird when I come across "hige" being translated annoyingly, or "beard" and "mustache" being wanked around in translation (See Whitebeard)
  5. RE: Boushi — Not sure. As far as I can tell, "cap" is a specific type of hat. I guess I could go either way (I notice, by the way, you didn't put a lit. for Donald's Cap), but if "boushi" is as general as I think it is, do we let the translation be fluid, or do we just say it's "hat"...?
  6. RE: Piasu — Hate this one, too, for basically the same reason as for #2. Same issue applies, plus the issue from #5. I'm alright with translating it as "earring", but again, I don't know how fluid we should be.
  7. RE: Boa-dzuke — Important question: What is "boa" in this case? If it is like the Feather boa, maybe we should just have it as "boa'd boots" (yes, the apostrophe is important) and leave it as that. Include the wikipedia link, maybe?
  8. RE: Numbering order — SOLVED

One concern of my own: I would actually like someone to check up on the names of Tidus's parts, both A and B. Specifically which ones are A and B. There are inconsistencies I found that I want to be sure of.

  • Although dictionaries define "Wanpi" simply as dress, it specifically refers to dresses of a certain length; the closest analog I could find in English is the sundress (again, I am by no means experience with female clothes).
  • I'm good with your take on uwagi and hige.
  • "Boushi" is kind of a bigger hat, while "bou" is a smaller hat, from what I've seen. (Donald was a mistake, we can fix it).
  • So, are you good with translating "Piasu" as both Earring and Stud (since they are both translated as piasu?)? Here and on Ability Stud?
  • As far as I can tell, yes, it is a feather boa. The thing is that those boots are simply lined boats, from what I saw on google. I agree that I'd be more comfortable calling them boa'd boots, though.

Scratch Card rewards[edit]

Is there any system to what commands you might get from Scratch Cards, or are they basically random? --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 22:16, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

I can't remember, are these rewarded for finishing chapters as in coded/Mobile? Or are they fully random, as the article claims?"We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 15:49, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
