{{TNE|time=20:15, 11 May 2015 (UTC)|text=I'm not sure how that might work. Personally, I do half of my internet browsing through a tablet, which by default would trigger most mobile sites. (I prefer desktop sites on the tablet, but that's just me.) Trouble is, a number of us who are seasoned enough to know which link goes where, would type the link directly into the browser.
It's a bit of a mixed bag... I feel fine if it were to go straight to desktop mode by me typing direct links, but others might not feel the same way.}}
{{TheSilentHero|time=20:58, 11 May 2015 (UTC)|reyn=As someone who browses the wiki on his phone sometimes, like now for example, I think the message would take too much space. I personally don't visit the Main Page that often, so I don't think the message will be seen a lot there. If possible, a pop-up message could work, like the ones that slide in from the bottom of the screen and disappear after a few seconds. And I think this will not be possible, but it would be really useful if registered users could turn off the message.}}
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 15:45, 12 May 2015 (UTC)|confused=Currently, the wiki is automatically set to mobile view on mobiles. The problem is the mobile view is quite a clunky way to view the wiki and I think most people would prefer using desktop (if they're anything like me and you). Personally, I have experiences on mobile sites where I really want to use the desktop version (because it's just better) but finding the desktop link is a long-winded process and sometimes I lose my patience and give up on the site.
The site message would get this link across to everyone instantly, no matter what article they came in from. Also, to answer TSH's query, I presume site notices will be able to be dismissed like they are on desktop.}}
{{neumannz|time=21:25, 12 May 2015 (UTC)|text=Can we test it? I have not spent enough time on the mobile site to know about how the site notices are affected.}}
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 16:48, 14 May 2015 (UTC)|happy=Thanks to Porple, we've run a mobile site message test which you can see [http://i.imgur.com/Z7szAUH.png here]. It takes up little space (a lot less than the banners other sites have at their tops...) so I advocate for it to stay. Others?}}
{{TheSilentHero|time=17:32, 14 May 2015 (UTC)|ike=Looks fine to me. I dismissed it on my phone and it's not coming back, even if I go to another site and back. I haven't been able to check this myself, but when you click the link, will you go back to the page you were on or the Main Page?}}
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 16:06, 15 May 2015 (UTC)|default=Good question, it goes to the main page but I think that can be fixed. Isn't there a template that inserts the name of the page? It's something along the lines of <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki> but I can't find it.}}
{{TheSilentHero|time=16:26, 15 May 2015 (UTC)|reyn=It is <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki>. Also, should we have a reverse link (from desktop mode to mobile)?}}
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 16:50, 15 May 2015 (UTC)|confused=Oh right! Do we have a template that also includes the namespace of the article too? <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki> does not, so for example Forum:Mobile Site Message only becomes "Mobile Site Message".
Also, there are links at the bottom to change view.}}
{{TheSilentHero|time=16:53, 15 May 2015 (UTC)|reyn=Try <nowiki>{{FULLPAGENAME}}</nowiki>}}
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 17:13, 15 May 2015 (UTC)|persuade=Okay, I need an admin to update the mobile portion of the site notices with what's on my [[User:TheFifteenthMember|userpage]]. I [http://www.khwiki.com/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Sitenotice&diff=671133&oldid=671131 gave it a go] originally (and the extra E formats the page name as a URL) but it didn't work due to caching. {{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 17:00, 16 May 2015 (UTC)|sad=The desktop/mobile link found at the bottom of the site takes you back to the page you were on. What's different there?}}
Correct. The difference is that the footer is generated on each page load by the theme and the site notice content is saved once you save MediaWiki:Sitenotice. --[[User:Porplemontage|Porplemontage]] ([[User talk:Porplemontage|talk]]) 20:05, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
{{TheFifteenthMember|time={{User:TheFifteenthMember/Sig1}} 20:23, 18 May 2015 (UTC)|default=If that's the case, do we want to keep the site notice, knowing that the link may prove a hindrance, or should we scrap it and possibly look down other avenues? I'm wondering whether it'll be possible to add the Desktop link to the collapsed, tap-in sidebar, which is slightly bare at the moment. Thoughts crew?}}
Ok, I got the site notice and link working as originally intended by incorporating it into the skin. I hid it for logged-in users since I figured the notice is really for new visitors but I can make it permanent or dismissible for logged-in users as well (the dismiss link made it look worse). --[[User:Porplemontage|Porplemontage]] ([[User talk:Porplemontage|talk]]) 23:43, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
