Kingdom Hearts χ, stylized as Kingdom Hearts χ[chi], is a Kingdom Hearts game that is exclusive to PC browsers as the eighth game of the series. The game itself is free to play, but there are items available within it that can be purchased.[2] Set before the events of the Keyblade War, Kingdom Hearts χ has simple, 2D graphics and allows all players to become Keyblade wielders.
The closed beta test for Kingdom Hearts χ was held from March 22 to March 25, 2013. An open beta test started on July 8, 2013, and it concluded with the official launch of the game service on July 18, 2013.[1]
On May 12, 2015, it was announced that Kingdom Hearts χ had been remade for iOS and Android smartphones as Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ. It was released in Japan on September 3 of that same year, with an international release in development.
An original HD movie that ties in with the game's events will be released as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue as Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover.
On April 6, 2016, it was announced that Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] for PC was to be terminated on September 01, 2016.[3]
Story
- "Far away there is a World of fairy tales.
It is a World filled with light.
The light gave birth to many lesser worlds, and then embraced them.
The source of light is Kingdom Hearts, and the key that protects it is the χ-blade.
So long as it endured, it was believed that the World's light would shine eternal.
However, bright light casts shadows that beget darkness.
Darkness brings anxiety and fear, awakening desire.
Formerly hidden in the depths of the heart, darkness turns to chaos and begins to spread across the World.
To halt the advancing darkness, those who desire light forge Keyblades in the image of the χ-blade and set out on an adventure across the World." - —Message from the KINGDOM[4]
Kingdom Hearts χ opens in pop-up book format, showing Kairi and her grandmother in Radiant Garden. Kairi's grandmother is telling Kairi her favorite story of light and darkness.
In Dive to the Heart, Player is asked a question: "What appearance takes the heart that guides you?", signifying Player's choice between the five Unions: Anguis, Leopardos, Unicornis, Ursus and Vulpeus. Once Player has chosen, darkness surrounds them and Player summons forth a Keyblade, which is described to them as being "the power of light meant to drive away darkness". After being enveloped in light, Player appears in Daybreak Town and is immediately attacked by a Darkside Heartless. Player is easily overcome by the large Heartless, who is then saved by their respective Foreteller, who forces the Darkside back into the Corridor of Darkness and follows it in order to destroy it.
Player is then introduced to Chirithy, who explains that Player had been chosen to become a Keyblade wielder to fend off the darkness that is quickly covering the worlds by collecting Lux, and it has been tasked by Player's Foreteller to act as an aide to the novice Keyblade wielder throughout their training. Chirithy indicates that Player’s Keyblade is incomplete and still requires the power of "Cards" called Fragments, one of which happens to be lying on the ground nearby. When Player goes to pick up the Card, a Moogle takes it before Player could. The Moogle tells Player that they have many Cards that they can offer, but for a price. Ultimately, the Moogle gives the Player the Card, calling it a sample of what it has to offer.
After exploring the area and defeating several Heartless, Player is approached by their Foreteller, who tells them that they should be able to defeat weaker Heartless with their Keyblade, but Player will need to call upon the help of others to defeat stronger Heartless. When another Darkside appears, numerous other Keyblade wielders from the Union arrive to help Player take down the powerful Heartless. Following their victory, the Foreteller warns Player that there are others who appear to be collecting light in order to fend off the darkness, but other Unions do not necessarily strive for peace across the worlds and are gathering Lux for their own selfish desires. The Foreteller informs Player that they must discern whose darkness is hiding behind a façade of light for themselves. Once the Foreteller leaves, Chirithy reveals that it wants the Player to go to these other worlds to fight the darkness by using the Lanes Between to access these other worlds.
The Player visits Dwarf Woodlands, Wonderland, and Agrabah, where they interact with the citizens and help defeat the hordes of Heartless. Although Player manages to help the residents of each other under Chirithy's guidance, they are unable to locate where the Heartless are originating from. Upon returning to Daybreak Town, Chirithy decides to tell Player the story of the Master of Masters and how he bestowed a copy of the Book of Prophecies to each of the five Foretellers, which contains a prophecy of the Keyblade War. In order to save the future from being engulfed in darkness, the five Foretellers began using the hidden power within the prophecies via the Cards, which act as intermediaries. Chirithy reminds Player that even though the five Foretellers have the same goal, their wills differ, which is why the Player must not lose sight of who they are. Later, Chirithy discovers that the Darkballs that they found in Agrabah had come from yet another world and sends the Player to Olympus Coliseum to defeat the Heartless.
Afterwards, the Player returns to Daybreak Town to help several other Keyblade wielders fight off Heartless and meets another Keyblade wielder named Ephemer, who is from a different Union. Ephemer wishes to explore the Foretellers' Chamber, and despite Chirithy's protests, Player agrees to accompany him, though Ephemer eventually goes ahead without them. When Player arrives at the Foretellers' Chamber, Foreteller Ava challenges Player to a fight to test their strength. After the duel, she informs Player that they have sadness in their heart, which is linked to darkness, and tells the Player to return home. During a mission at Beast's Castle, Player meets another Keyblade wielder named Skuld, who is from the same Union as Ephemer and invites the Player to explore the Foretellers' lair. They are suddenly shocked to see two Foretellers fighting each other and encounter strange Heartless. After the two defeat them, they also encounter a dark, evil vision of Chirithy, who reveals that the Heartless they defeated are Keyblade Wielders consumed by darkness, much to the shock of the Player's Chirithy.
To further understand the mysteries of the Foretellers and the future, the Player, Chirithy, and Skuld re-enter the Foretellers' tower, where they are caught by a Foreteller. They are also told that Ephemer is a traitor to his union and that he has disappeared. The Player then challenges the Foreteller to a duel, assuming Ephemer has been captured, but is easily defeated. The Foreteller reveals that she is, in fact, Master Ava, and that the Player's quest was a test of their character to see if they are worthy of leaving this world before the Great War between light and darkness. Keyblade wielders that can resist the darkness and fight for what they believe in, like their friends, are worthy of becoming elite Keyblade warriors known as Dandelions and going on to the Realm of Light and avoiding the coming universal war. All who stay will become a part of that war and must face an uncertain future. Skuld accepts the offer, but the Player's character is uncertain if they should join Ephemer, who has gone on to the Realm of Light, or stay and fight to save the future. Later, they encounter two Keyblade warriors accusing each other of stealing Lux from their unions, and the Player is forced to fight Master Aced, who defeats them. Ira arrives to stop the fighting. Aced claims that he is collecting more Keyblade warriors to prepare for the upcoming war before leaving. Ira informs the Player, Skuld, and Chirithy that the war cannot be avoided and that there will be no victor. The only Foreteller who may have a solution is Gula so the trio go to look for him.
When Gula is found, he reveals that the only one who can alter these predicaments is the Master of Masters, the Foreteller's mentor, who had disappeared recently along with the sixth apprentice, Luxu. Meanwhile, Ava tracks down Luxu, who had been ordered to watch the place by their Master. He reveals that he wants to move forward to see the end of the upcoming Keyblade War after discovering what happens in the "Lost Page" in the Book of Prophecies. Once Luxu reveals the truth about the events that have been occurring and the identity of the true traitor, a shocked and furious Ava engages Luxu in a duel, ringing the clock bell and starting the war. Meanwhile, Skuld returns to her union and the Player encounters Nightmare Chirithy, who is surprised that the Player is choosing to stay out of the war. He then summons the corrupted Keyblade wielder Heartless from earlier, forcing the Player to fight them. After they are defeated, Nightmare Chirithy fuses them and himself in a giant Heartless. After the Player defeats it, Nightmare Chirithy dissolves into darkness, but vows to meet them again.
A few days later, the Keyblade War begins and the Player battles four Foretellers before collapsing in exhaustion. The war ends with numerous Keyblades planted in the ground, forming the Keyblade Graveyard and with the Player's character laying in the middle of the graveyard (presumably dying) while Chirithy, Skuld, and Ephemer approach them.
Some time later, the Player wakes up to Chirithy at a simulation of Enchanted Dominion. Chirithy claims that the events of the Keyblade War have really been a dream the Player has had ever since turning down Ava's offer to join the Dandelions, and the two decide to rest after confronting a wall of thorns. On the other side of the thorns, Maleficent (who is heavily implied to have found the Book of Prophecies) congratulates herself with what she has accomplished while wondering where Pete is. Confident that Sora and company cannot meddle in this world, she contemplates on conquering the new world that she has entered in. Template:Section-stub
Gameplay
Players are able to create their own unique characters in the same style and fashion originally present in Kingdom Hearts Mobile and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded's Avatar Menu. Battles consist of a strategic card-battling mechanic with a large emphasis on collecting cards and items. Cards can also be synthesized to level and evolve stronger cards and materials can be synthesized to strengthen the Keyblade's abilities. All controls, including moving around the field and battling, use the mouse. While the game can be experienced in single-player, cooperative multi-player is an emphasized element as cooperative gameplay is required to defeat raid bosses, which appear several times throughout the day. Additionally, players go into five Unions in which players defeat enemies together to collect light known as "Lux". At the end of each week, the total amount of Lux for each team is calculated, and the team that gathered the most takes part in a mission where players can obtain special rewards.
Action Points (AP)
This section is about Action Points. You may be looking for Ability Points or Attack Points. |
AP, or Action Points, determine how much actions, such as opening chests, inspecting objects, and battling Heartless, the player can execute, each one consuming a determined amount of AP. Opening a a treasure chest, for example, costs 3 AP. If the player runs out of AP, they will not be able to take certain actions. AP can be replenished by consuming items, such as Potions, that replenishes 10 AP, or Mega-Potions, that replenishes all AP; leveling up; or by allowing time to pass.
Battle Points (BP)
BP, or Battle Points, are used to increase the damage the player deals to Raid Bosses. The first time the player enters in each Raid Boss screen, it can get a x5 multiplier for the first strike if the player's team won the previous raid boss fight, or a x4 multiplier for 0 BP otherwise, but after that, it will cost 3 BP, while a x2.5 multiplier will cost 2 BP, and a x1 multiplier will cost only 1 BP. BP can be replenished by consuming Ethers which replenish 1 BP, Mega-Ethers which replenish all BP, leveling up, and by waiting fifteen minutes.
