As most everyone knows, one of The Walt Disney Company's most valuable moves in the last couple of years has been the acquisition of Marvel and Lucasfilm. Included in this package were the rights to beloved franchises such as Captain America, Thor, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars. It's no secret that these franchises are huge all on their own, but what would they be like when combined with the momentous story of the Kingdom Hearts series, specifically Kingdom Hearts III? | As most everyone knows, one of The Walt Disney Company's most valuable moves in the last couple of years has been the acquisition of Marvel and Lucasfilm. A new world, labeled only as "CT", was also teased. Apparently, this world is similar to Land of Departure in appearance, due to the inclusion of chains and elegant aesthetics. Sora was later seen facing a large window with curtains in what appeared to be a library or a study. Chess-like pieces lined the window sill, some of them with a crown or heart top. Recusant's_Sigil was seen written on a chalkboard. Disney Infinity is a video game series very much like Kingdom Hearts. Developed by Disney Interactive, Infinity features characters from the many Disney franchises interacting with each other as the player completes missions and edits their "Toy Box" to create worlds full of endless possibilities. Playing requires physical figurines of your chosen character that one places on a gamepad. These figures become the characters in game, recording experience and giving access to new abilities. They're pretty essential to the game. | Disney Infinity is a video game series very much like Kingdom Hearts. TWEWY and KH share a common theme of friendship and the TWEWY crew are the same age as the KH protagonists, so it's actually not surprising that the mashup turned out well. In fact, some may think that TWEWY's characters merge with KH even better than Final Fantasys. The smaller age gap means believable friendships, as opposed to Sora becoming such close friends with people twice his age, like Cid. Wasn't that just a little off? Another comparison can be made with world choice. TWEWY was self-contained within the world of Traverse Town, which was formerly the hub for FF characters. But what if things had been different? In this article, I'm going to speculate over how the TWEWY world of Shibuya would fit into a future KH game.
I'll be honest; I was originally going to do this for the 2014 End of the Year Event's Design-a-World contest, but then I realised that TWEWY was not an "unused" property. First of all, I'll talk about the general atmosphere of Shibuya. Many people worry about the modern day being introduced to KH since the franchise tends to avoid busy, populated areas (yes, I am thinking about the podcast). However, La Cité des Cloches was set in Paris, which would have been a bustling, lively city in the 19th Century. The famous Notre Dame was entirely deserted of any NPCs but, as players, we never noticed because we were too busy fending off against the Dream Eaters. With Shibuya, central areas such as the Scramble Crossing and 104 can be littered with NPCs and shops (but not too littered), as it is in Twilight Town, while others areas will be Heartless zones (imagine battling in alleyways, streets, graffiti hotspots, and tunnels). Even three or four random NPCs loitering around the Scramble will be enough to make the world feel like a lived-in settlement. Buildings will feature electronic billboards and fluorescent lights, not unlike those in the Dark City. To sum up, the fact that Shibuya is a modern city is not a problem at all. On the contrary, I think a city environment will do much to liven up and add variety. | First of all, I'll talk about the general atmosphere of Shibuya. TWEWY's concept of Noise is also perfectly compatible with the KH universe — these monsters are like Heartless with a different name. The Reapers control them, sending the Noise to do their dirty work in the same way Maleficent and the other Disney villains beckon the Heartless. The themes are already there and there are so many ways in which the TWEWY cast and setting could be used to create interesting scenes and dialogue. Plus, the Noise from TWEWY can be used as base designs for the Heartless of that world. | TWEWY's concept of Noise is also perfectly compatible with the KH universe — these monsters are like Heartless with a different name. Lastly, you may be wondering what the basic plot of the Shibuya world would be. Well, KH3D is set after the events of TWEWY, so, as we know it, Joshua has led the others back to Shibuya to live in the RG. Hence, the Reaper's Game cannot be played in Kingdom Hearts III. If Shibuya were to happen, I'd imagine that the directors would have some sub-plot to act as a hype-builder to the plot of TWEWY 2 (if that's ever going to happen) or it'd be like Traverse Town, Twilight Town, or Hollow Bastion, where the world plots take a backseat so that the main storyline can unravel. Then, the TWEWY cast will be there to hang around, but the story of KH3 is actually the focus (whatever Nomura has planned for that). | Lastly, you may be wondering what the basic plot of the Shibuya world would be. Did I say a small ship? I meant TWO. Configure both clone ships to transform between one another. Why? Even though you have the smallest ship possible, some obstacles are almost impossible to avoid, so you'll need a dose of invincibility, which you can get by transforming. Use the O button to go slower so you can dodge obstacles better, and for the hard ones you will HAVE to transform. | Did I say a small ship? I meant TWO.
