This template says it should be used on pages with more than 7 trivia bits. Should this number be lowered, maybe to 4 or 5, as the goal of the wiki is to completely eliminate trivia sections?

I agree. An article should have NO MORE than 4. I haven't yet found one with 5+ that I can't merge at least SOME into spots in the article.
