May I ask why, though? When I first asked Bluerfn about electing new staff, he said that it "needed to be more transparent, and I needed to show that it was the community wanted", so you can probably see how this new decision is confusing.}} | May I ask why, though? {{EO|time=17:17, August 10, 2010 (UTC)|hooded=The staff elections are well under way, 2 admins elected and at least 6 mods. The community seems to be perfectly fine with the promoting of more staff. Considering the fact that there were 15 slots for staff and about 8 retired, that left plenty of room for new staff, and I don't see why you and Bluer are against refilling those slots out of fear that we'd have "too many admins", when you were perfectly content with that number before.
The Wiki itself is based on community decision. It was then brought up to the b-crats, the result of that decision. If the addition of more staff is what the community wants, I see no reason why it can't be carried out. Having elections just to have them is quite pointless, and it's a real let-down to candidates when they find out they won only to have a "Psych!" pushed in their face.
That's why I think it'd be fair, if staff promotion really ''is'' to be left to the b-crats, that they take the top candidates from the list of nominees and examine their contributions for themselves. Only those that are actually "worthy" would be promoted. And if it's a matter of "What if they don't know how to use their power?", then keep in mind that several of us edit other Wikis and possibly have admin rights there. It's the same functions. Same conditions. Simple as that.
Saying we're too busy worrying about staff rather than editing the Wiki out of fear that we'd have more incidents or whatever the reason is a very unfair statement. If you look at half the candidates, at least the nominees for adminship, maggosh, and I, you see that that is not true, and it again references to the "Only promote the worthy" idea above. I hate to sound conceited, but I edit the mainspace frequently every day. There are many more reasons why that's an unfair accuasation, but I'm not going into them right now.
If it's an issue of "Oh, they need modship experience first", keep in mind that that's not technically fair, and it's very hypocritical. I mean, KrytenKoro himself said he had no memory of ever being a mod, I technically should have been one but false info prevented that. Some of the users had no staff experience or involvement whatsoever, and they were nominated for adminship and modship anyways!
I recently had a PM session on the IRC with KrytenKoro, who was very upset about this sudden change in Bluerfn's opinion, and now yours. I admit that I was, too. It pains me to say that he honestly felt that maybe if he was gone, then perhaps you'd loosen up, on the slight chance that he angered you in any way. But Bluerfn's reasoning against KrytenKoro's actions seems to be 100% false. He DID bring the idea of a staff election to the public, etc.
I really would like to talk to you more about this on the IRC, Bebop, and please note I hold nothing against you or Bluer, no matter what you decide. True, it will hurt when I don't get my well-deserved adminship position, but we will still be friends, and that's the important thing. Please message me the time and date you wish to meet.}} |
