Lock, Shock, and Barrel originally appeared in the 1993 movie ''{{w|The Nightmare Before Christmas}}'', with Lock voiced by {{w|Paul Reubens}}, Shock by {{w|Catherine O'Hara}}, and Barrel by composer {{w|Danny Elfman}}. In the movie, Jack, in his mission to take over Christmas, orders Lock, Shock, and Barrel to kidnap Santa Claus. When the trio manages to do that, they bring Santa to Jack.
